I am posting this somewhat due to gottagocruizin's "dillema" post. Regarding work and the impact it can have on potential cruising in the future. As we all know obamacare was signed into law and will take effect in 2014. As a person in management with a top 5000 company which employs more than 50 employees, our company has decided to only hire part time positions from current, going forward. we recieved an email stating the company's position and reasons for making the change. I have talked to many other professionals with other companies, and we were noticing a trend in this direction. Going forward, this will impact many people's decision to plan cruises for many reasons. the main reason being that their company no longer offers paid time off as a benefit to part time employees. Other reasons include coordinating time off from multiple jobs(as most jobs being created are only part time, less than 30hrs weekly, and many will need two or more jobs to suppliment the income from their previously full timejob). less disposable income from having to spend a higher percentage of their income on healthcare insurance. these are just a few possible scenarios that could impact people's ability/desire to book cruises in the future.
I am curious to know your opinions, and thoughts on this topic. good bad or indifferent speak your piece....
