My Mom is due to start radiation treatment soon. I've scheduled an appointment for a pedicure/manicure for the two of us. It will probably end up being on the second day of her treatment. Is there any reason she shouldn't have a manicure or pedicure during the treatment. I have to plan this without her knowing about it, she thinks she needs to get her feet into "better" shape before having a pedicure. We have made plans to do lunch that day & just didn't tell her about the nail treatments.

I don't think it would be a problem, but I'd ask the clinic just to be sure...

I just wanted to say I wish your Mom well, and hope she does well with her treatments. That's such a nice thing you are doing for her...God bless..

I got on with my life as I went through radiation treatment for prostrate cancer. The only effect I felt was a little tired. Otherwise we got through the day like any other. I went through a procedure called "Cyber Knife". Very quick, very easy and non-invasive. In 5 days they had "nuked" the cancer and I beat it. Wishing her well.

You should ask about this. because depending on the type and target area, the chair she is in may rotate at times. This may make doing nails a chore.

I wish your mum well through all of this., and you are a good daughter.

How nice to plan something special for your Mom.

I agree with reggae that this is a question for the clinicians and/or doctors. You should also tell them of any medications she is taking, in case any of them make her more prone to infection.

And, add my prayers and good wishes for your Mom as she goes through her treatment. Hugs to you, too.

Mail girl, from my own personal experience, I felt no major effects from my radiation sessions for a couple days, then I mostly felt very tired. (My treatments were for breast cancer. ) I see no reason why she couldn't have a pedicure at this time. Boy, I sure do wish someone had planned a special day for me like you are doing for your Mom. Believe me, she will be thrilled to have something other than the hospital to think about!!! I refer to that phase of my cancer treatments as 'life in the basement'. LOL

One thing you might consider doing is shopping together for a really good skin cream, like one you might use for sun burn, maybe one with aloe in it. I found this to be very helpful in nourishing the radiated skin when it becomes dry and red. Be sure to ask her doctor first though if they recommend using this type of product.

PS, if you would like to email me about your Mom , please do so, my email address is in my profile. Or you could PM me. I will be happy to answer any questions at all about my own experiences.

Hugs and many prayers, Mariposa

God bless you and hang in there kiddo.

That is a wonderful surprise for your mother. I am sure she will be very pleased. I too, wish her well with her treatments.

Thank you all! This year has been a roller coaster ride for me. My new grandson was born at the end of February & then my Mom found out about the Cancer. & then my grandson's surgery. Everything looks good for both of them so hopefully the roller coaster ride is over for a while!
