I'd appreciate comments and suggestions from anyone having sailed in category D1 on Radiance Class vessels (Billiance, Radiance, Serenade, Jewel). Cabin number and details would be very helpful. I'm most interested in Jewel of the Seas.

Looking at Jewel of the Seas' plan of Deck 9, 9092 and 9592 seem attractive to me. Can anyone comment on these accommodations. Would being near the elevators be a problem for noise?

I also notice some aft D1s, especially 9256 which, according to the deck plan, has a very large balcony.

I haven't looked at D1s on other decks. I welcome any and all comments on D1s, specific or general.

Thank you.

We are staying in Cabin 9226 and 9240 in two weeks on the Brilliance. We were on the Radiance in Alaksa when we booked these cabins, and trust me these are great cabins. The key is to book further back from the hump so you have more pirvacy on your balcony. The only bad things about aft cabins are that people from the Windjammer Terrace can sort of look down at you, kind of a negative to me.

Cabins are very spacious compared to other ships for the price. They are 204 sq. ft with a 41 sq. ft balcony. The Balcony has 1 large sliding full glass door leading to a glass balcony. The balcony has 2 chairs and plenty of standing room.

The Cabin itself has a nice closet as well as a very nice bathroom. Bathroom has tile work it it as well as a reasonable sized walk in shower. 1 sink with plenty of cabinet and mirror space. There is a really nice sofa torwards the bathroom with a nice coffee table. I front of that is a desk with plenty of drawer(sp?) space. The bed is a good size with some tables and lights on either side.

A side thing is that there are some nice pictures in the cabin, very cruise friendly. Here is a picture below:

We have been on Deck 9, D-1 cabins on Brilliance, Jewel and Serenade. We are back on Jewel for the Baltic in July. Booked into 9580 (this is the same cabin we had before) and I love it. Yes, the aft cabins have larger balcony's, but it is a long walk to the rear of the ship. 9580 is just off the centrum near the library and have never had a noise problem....... I like the cabins on the hump......

Thank you for the replies to date.....very helpful.

MarciaL, re: 9580, I notice that the balcony has some forward exposure. Is the wind much of a factor on this side of the hump? I was thinking of trying the aft side of the hump.

Re: wind. Not really as the wind can be coming from any direction. Forward, Aft or from one side or the other.... I love this one as I can see straight down, no life boats below me, and I love looking forward, not back. When coming into port I want to see where we are going.

Thank you for very helpful information, MarciaL. I have just one more question, in 9580 is the bed facing so that you can look in the forward direction? On ships with which we are most familiar, Celebrity M-class, on Deck 8, for instance, beds and sofas alternate direction from cabin to cabin. That is, 8053 has aft facing bed and sofa, while 8055 has has forward facing bed and sofa. Hence, my question, in which direction do bed and sofa in 9580 face. And, do you know if the facing alternates from cabin to cabin. Perhaps on the hump, all cabins on the forward side have forward facing beds and sofas, while all on the back side have aft facing beds and sofas.

Thank you very much for helping me with this detail which is important to us.

I had a D1 cabin on deck 10 on the jewel, cabin 1558. This cabin is directly above the one you are looking at on the hump. This cabin was really nice. Mine was right next to the royal suite, and had an owners suite on the other side. The cabin on the hump is great, and the balcony is a bit larger than the other balcony cabins, however it is not as large as I thought it would be, but very enjoyable non the less. I had no problems with noise from anywhere, including the elevators. You will love it!!!
