You don't have to reserve snorkel equipment ahead of time. You can decide if you want to once you get there. The snorkel huts have a ton of gear to rent. However, if you ever think you will snorkel again, it may be worth buying your own gear. You can often find inexpensive sets at places like Wal-Mart and Costco.
