We are getting ready to book our room on the Grand Princess. Our original plan (since this is our 1st cruise) is to book interior rooms as they are cheapest. But now I am considering an obstructed ocean view. What room numbers does everyone else recommend? What did you like or not like about your room on the grand as far as location? Thanks-Pughaven2003

Since this is your first cruise, don't take an inside cabin...you may not like it. Also, stay away from the bow or stern for your first cruise, you may not like that either. An outside obstructed view is an excellent choice, it's a good value for the price, and even though you may not have a great view, you'll still get plenty of sunlight. Anywhere from around E300 to E620 on the Emerald deck would be an excellent location for you. You can also look on the deck plan and try to pick one that's sort of between two lifeboats, like E307 or E319, that way it won't be like looking at a brick wall... which is how it is when you're directly behind a lifeboat. Either way, you'll still get sunlight. ...and when you're in a tender port, if your boat's down you'll have a view for 8 hours.

Great ship...Enjoy!!

If this is your first cruise you should consider spending the extra monies on an outside cabin. You will be surprised by the amount of time you will spend in your cabin. Inside ones give you a good view of four walls. Part of the joy of cruising is the view from your stateroom. Unless you plan on spending all of your time aboard in public areas, the monies spent on an outside or balcony cabin are well worth it. You cruise will be that much more enjoyable.

Contrary to alot of posters, DH and I did spend a good amount of time on our cabin, we had a Balcny, and it was a great quiet place with fresh air to sit and relax, have a glas of wine order room service, and truly get away from it all...

Spoil yourself and go for a balcony :)

=yeah..we also used our balcony so much on the last cruise especially..it was for the Panama Canal..But we will get a balcony if we can swing it...our next cruise is a Back to Back in February and we got our balcony..:thumb..:)..Joanne

We were on the Grand in March, cabin E424 obstructed on Emerald Deck. There was really NO obstruction from this cabin. The front of one of the smaller lifeboats hung below our window, but looking straight out, you had a clear view. If you stood on the bed and looked straight down, THEN you could see the lifeboat, but who the heck does that?!? We actually booked an inside and were upgraded to the obstructed view, so we would have been happy with a glimmer of daylight, but we really lucked out with the view from this cabin!

We had an inside cabin on the Sun Princess for our first cruise. Honestly, it was fine with us. We are social and had a good time jsut getting out of the cabin, meeting others and participating in anything we could. My last Princess cruise, we had a balcony cabin on the Grand. It was fantastic. Its true what they say.... once you try a balcony, you wont likely go back inside. I still think the inside cabin was fine at the time, our budget was tighter then, so I understand needing to consider costs. I would agree with the opinions above... stay away from the bow especially. If you decide on an inside cabin, try to book midship to avoid motion sickness, its also convenient to be more centrally located. Its possible (but no one can determine to what degree) that you could get upgraded to an oceanview from booking an "inside guarantee". But in doing that, you take the chance of no upgrade and the cruiseline determining your location. No matter what cabin you book, the Grand is a wonderful ship, we loved her!

Hi and good cruising. I am a cheap kind of guy... I prefer to spend money on more cruises, or longer ones than on balconies. So I give up a bit of that ocean view for longer or more often cruises.... Only because of budget. But I do look for partially obstructed middle of the ship rooms with balconies because they are cheaper, and I do get some view. Any way,,, I find that the cruise destination is just as important as the stateroom... If you choose an itinerary that is say south or Puerto Rico, they the islands and their scenery and there exoticness (if that is a word) are more fun than say Mexico or the DR or Bahamas. But since I am Canadian, and am happy to visit the States, I kinda want exotic islands etc. to explore. like Granada, Dominica, Guadaloup, ST. Lucia, St martin or st maarten or even Curacao.. Have fun, and choose a good itinerary, cause ocean views are ocean views, but approaching an exotic island is well WOW..

Hope to see u on a cruise, I and my honey are on the Golden Princess on Jan 02 and again on Jan 07 of 05... toodles from canuckland of the beaver.
