Poor Simon......

There is a large drawer in my coffee table in the living room. For some reason, Simon has always been afraid of it. When I would open it, if he were sitting on the table he would yell and run off. Today, we were playing while he was sitting on the table. Since he seemed kind of mellow, I wanted to show him there was nothing to be afraid of, so I reached over and opened the drawer to see if he would finally just investigate it. He had such a hard time as a little kitten, I wanted to make sure he felt safe in here and was not afraid of anything. He immediately stuck his head in there for a look around. When he was finsihed snooping in there, I shut the drawer.

I didn't see that his paw was in there, or maybe he reached in again as I was shutting it, but either way, it shut on his paw. You would have thought he was being skinned alive. He screamed, hissed and spit all at once.

As soon as he yelled, Maxie came out of nowhere and attacked him. I got the drawer open right away, and Simon took off screaming, and Maxie followed him. They screeched and yelled and rolled down the hall way trying to kill each other. (Scooter my timid little baby just ran and hid).

I yelled at Maxie, and finally he stopped and turned around and looked at me like, "Oh, did you want something?" Butter wouldn't have melted in his mouth. Simon came back in and I tried to catch to assess the damage, but he was having nothing to do with me.

I felt awful! I finally caught Simon and cuddled and apologized, and I think he has forgiven me. He is not even limping, so I think he is fine.

I don't understand Maxie's reaction tho, Normally he is the most laid back cat you have ever seen. Easy going and affectionate. I don't know if he was trying to protect me, or just taking the oppertunity to get rid of Simon. To look at them now, you wouldn't ever know anything happened between them. Wonder what goes on in those fuzzy little heads

The million dollar question, Connie. Brothers are like that. They would defend each other, but given the chance...

Glad he's not limping, glad you didn't get in the way of either of them.

Something about cats...they always seem to get themselves into trouble.

We have to leave all doors open around here, because this one gets himself locked in closets, etc.

OUCH - poor Simon. Please tell him Auntie Mary Ann and Cousin Pucci send scritches for his "owie".

Sometimes, what *WE* do with the best of intentions turns out with results exactly the opposite of what we would have liked.

cc - Here Simon.

S - (What?)

cc - Good kitty.

S - (Hmmmm. Already, I don't like the sound of this...)

cc - Yes, I know you've been afraid of this all your life.

S - (Oh, crap. Not THE DRAWER!)

cc - But, Mommy's here to protect you.

S - (Are you sure?)

cc - See, nothing there ............................. WHAM!!!!!

S - (Yeow! If I get free human, I'll flay you alive!!)

M - {I don't think so. Try to hurt the mama person and you'll have to deal with me first! As a matter of fact ...}

S - (I'm outta here.)

M - {Hold on buddy, I ain't done with you yet.}

sc - [Uh-oh. He's gonna kill Kenny, I mean Simon. I don't wanna see this ... Color me gone.]

((time passes))

S - (Remember, smile, purr. Let her get close. Act as though everything's alright ... She has to sleep sometime.)

Calgon, you are quite amusing. Obviously, too much time on your hands.
You did, however, do a pretty good job of having all ends of the conversation. Very entertaining.

My cat used to love to lie on a small table in front of the upstairs window and look out. One night I woke up around 1 pm or so and it was cold in the house. I got up and went in to shut the window. Half asleep, I didn't notice she had both her front feet over the window ledge and slammed the window down on both her front paws.
She let out a bloodcurdling scream that I'm sure all the neighbors heard and I almost dropped dead from a heart attack. In my panic, I reached down to get the window handle to raise it back up and she sank her teeth all the way through the fleshy part of my thumb.
I finally got the window off her paws and she flew downstairs and hid. I was worried to death I had broken her feet but after about 30 minutes or so I finally found her and she had calmed down. She was ok
but it took me the rest of the night to wind back down and work on my thumb. I don't see how it kept from breaking her toes but cats feet are very soft and supple so I guess that's what kept them from breaking. I think I came out on the short end of that deal with the sore thumb. If I had been thinking clearly I would have just raised the window from the top instead of sticking my hand down to the handle near her feet where she could bite me.
But we are still best buddies so all's well that ends well. :wave

Well, I am really in for it now, I slammed the cabinet door on Maxie's tail. I caught it before it did any damage, but Maxie has a thing about his tail, you don't touch it. So, now Scooter is hiding because he thinks he is next. These cats are killing me! they're everywhere.
