If schools are used to provide a voting place do you think the kids should have classes that day?

I ask this because with all of the school security issues and tragedies we have seen around the country, we certainly have have had our share of that here in CO. Do you think that having children in school while anyone can just walk into the building is safe or wise?

I believe if you are opening your doors to anyone to walk into a school, the children should not be in class. What do you think?

I know my grandchildren will not be attending school today. Audra feels it is too great a security risk.
I told her that when the kids return to school she needs to state that in a letter to the principal and superintendent.

I absolutely agree. I will not allow my students to go to the restroom alone today. If they do not go with the whole class, I have invited 2 moms to spend part of the day with us to do restroom escorts. The rest of the time, our school is locked so tightly that you can't get back inside from the playground without using a key card and today, the front doors will be unlocked!

Where we go to vote is a elementary school down the street,so far school remains open, hadnt really thought about it till you mentioned it as my kids are grown but it might be something to take into consideration.

My sister and I just talked about this on the phone. There is school today in her town, but she kept my niece home because of the voting at her school. There is no school today in my town. I think there is only voting at the high school in my town, but I would still not allow my child to go if she was in high school.

Our school system close on election days since the school buildings are used for polling location.

At least in our suburb, churches are the voting places. I don't know of any schools in or around our town. I did go to our caucus at a school, but that was after hours. I'd not considered this before, but it makes sense.

We use schools here for voting, but always on a Saturday, so no students around.

I work at an elemetary school and this has always been a strong concern for me. The moron voters wander around the building.....oblivious to the signs and arrows pointing to the polling room that was near the door they just came in thru. They would wander into the lunchroom and pop into classrooms. The school can lock some areas but not all and I have always felt unsafe. This is the first year that the district has given the day off to students, and I am relieved.

The schools my grandkids go to are all off for election day, however, I live in another town, and my polling place is at a Luthern church/school, and the kids are in school on election day. I'd never given it much thought either, until my daughter mentioned it. If I had kids in school...they'd be off on election day, no matter how young or old they were. There's just too many crazies out there today.

Here in Finland the elections take always place on a Sunday so there are no kids in the school.
