Red, we did this on our second Panama Canal Cruise and really enjoyed it. I can't remember the cost, but it was worth it to be able to see the locks a bit closer, as well as Bridge of the Americas.

The Panama Canal Experience By Boat

Experience the full wonder of the Panama Canal with a partial crossing of the canal by tour boat.

WHAT YOU VISIT
Travel by ship's tender to the Gatun Yacht Club, where you board air-conditioned transportation for the drive through the isthmus to Gamboa. Embark on your tour boat for a partial transit of the canal. Cruise to the Gaillard Cut where you cross the Continental Divide. Enter the Pedro Miguel Locks, which lower your vessel 28 feet on its way to the Pacific. Sail across Miraflores Lake to the Miraflores Locks, which lower your tour boat the final 56 feet, matching the level of the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a buffet lunch during your scenic cruise. Your cruise ends at the port of Balboa in Panama City, where you board your air-conditioned transportation for the return trip to the ship.

SPECIAL NOTES
Tour duration varies. Canal transits are scheduled and controlled by the Panama Canal Authority. The transit itinerary for this tour is subject to change depending on the ship's transit times. The return drive from Panama City to the ship is approximately 90 minutes.

*** PLEASE NOTE: A BUFFET LUNCH IS NOW SERVED DURING THE BOAT TOUR (It was a subway sandwich when we went)

Thnx JacquieP - we plan on doing an excursion such as this and will book it just as soon as RCL opens their bookings.

Jacquie, thank you so much for posting this information.

It sounds like the one we did, right down to the sandwich :lol
They were building a bridge, and there are photos of it in the P@N@M@ photo album on site.
We enjoyed it. And it was nice to go all through the Canal.
The boat had an air conditioned section, or you could toast on deck :grin

Toast on deck is the understatement! I think that's the one all of us were on, because Surfer Girl and the White Haired Guy were downstairs with us - where it was cool.

Calgon, there was no time for shopping. we went right from the boat to the bus.
