We are about to book our first cruise and our cabin is located on the lower deck. We suspect that this may not be the best spot. We need some opinions. Please help!!! Thanks

It may actually be in a pretty good spot. Generally, the lower the deck and the closer to mid ship the less motion you will feel. Of course, you will have a longer trek to visit pool decks etc. What ship are you planning on booking?

Don't worry about the location of your state room. There are advantages and disadvantages for room
locations all over the ship. One of the advantages of your location, is that you will experience the least amount of movement. You will probably find that you do not spend much time in your room anyway, other than sleeping, of course. The only times that room location becomes an issue for me is when you are directly adjacent to (above, below, or next to) very busy public areas of the ship which tend to be noisy. And, some areas like under the buffet area kitchen, can prove to cause sleeping problems. The best rooms, in my opinion, are those on decks which have other staterooms both above and below hem. They will invariably be the quietest.

Enjoy your cruise!

Our cabin was on deck 5 near the atrium on the Star and I was verrrrry happy! It was very quiet and close to the gangways and restaurants. As Princess staff a few years ago I was always on deck 4 anyways, mid-ship which is the best to sleep. It also helped my mom who gets sea sick as the higher you go the more the motion. I will definately look for a cabin in the same area for my next cruise. You spend less time in elevators and more time enjoying yourself. :)

Another advantage of the lower decks is that you are usually closer to the gangways in ports, making it easier to zip off and on the ship several times during the day.

I also find that, in an outside cabin with a window, I enjoy being closer to the sea - it's stunning late at night to stare out the window at the sky and water.

You have not made a mistake - you will love it!

Bon Voyage!

We had a cabin on Plaza deck 5, the number was 321. Perfect because the motion of the ship is less if you are down lower, and midship. Just maybe more walking up to the buffet on top--but then you can walk off a few calories!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't know if you get seasick, take something along with you in case. We had great seas and some people still got sick. Saw a lot of people with patches behing their ears.

The Cruiser, thanks. :thumb

Sorry I can't comment about that particular deck, as I've never stayed on it, but like the others have said, generally, the lower the better for less ship movement. :)

Kinda depends on your priorities. I would like lower deck (less motion, and getting off and on the sip several times in port is convenient, as others pointed out). It's nice to get back from the beach, change quickly, then go into town and shop. Never underestimate the time to walk to the high back of the ship on those days :)

But, if you are an avid pool fan, don't care about noise and motion, and want to jet into your cabin often on sea days, you might want an upper deck room.

And if you like to snack several times a day instead of eating big meals, its convenient to be on the same side of the ship as the buffet (front or back) so the stairs are easily accessable.

If you are sensitive to noise, book something with cabins above and below and away from stairs and elevators. If you sleep like the dead, don't care about noise, motion or location, save money by booking a guar.

Lots of ways to do it :)
