Yes it is a pain Denise, and so darn stupid too. Because these days you get people taking on as "carry-on" luggage more than I have checked in!
And I get real tired of seeing people with two sets of luggage that is almost as tall as me going down the isle and cramming it in the first places they can find.
I have seen people get to their own seats and find that they have no place for their hand luggage because of these hogs. So they end up having to put it in the very back of the plane and then wait for everyone to disembark before they can retrieve it.
it is not fair, and totally the fault of the airlines.
They could at least solve this problem if they positioned an attendant in the last row.
In other words, if they are allowing rows 24 to 39 to board, then an attendant stands behind the seats in row 23. she/he then can watch the people as they board and come towards her. if someone stops and tries to fill in one of the front overheads, then she can tell that person to please bring their luggage with them. and if they refuse, tell them that it will be removed and checked.
Then move down to monitor the next lot.
But back to actual checked baggage allowance. We now fly with Southwest as often as we can, but when we HAVE to fly Delta, we have their amex/delta card.. so it allows us the first bag each "free"
But if they allowed everyone two bags each, then perhaps we could go back to actually boarding the plane without waiting forever while people attempt to lift a 40 pound "carry on" into the overhead bin!
aghhh!
