I'm not a happy camper. The electricity went out and the wind chill is 20 below zero F. The laptop is running on battery . The house is still warm - thank goodness for the well insulated windows. ComEd says there are 14 houses in my neighborhood without power. The Grammy Award show was pretty good tonight; I'm sorry I'm going to miss it. ComEd says they will let us know if the power is not on in 2 hours. Like we wouldn't notice! I'm worried about pipes freezing - Roy says I shouldn't worry. I guess it's just my nature. I think I'll save my batter and sign off for now.

Rosie, how awful being without electricity in the arctic cold weather. I certainly will keep you in my thoughts tonight. Please, if you don't have the electric back on in a couple of hours go to a hotel or a family members home. It's already 20 below zero. I can't remember a winter this bad in a long time.

we lost our power when the temp were over 100 we moved to 5th wheel with generator on all night and day it was off for 27 hours

Rosie - turn the water on so it is running so the pipes don't freeze. I hope you get your power back soon!

That's what we did yesterday when we lost our power - turned the water on to drip in the utility room.

We would be out of luck as we live in an all electric house - - no way to heat without electric. Guess I would head to a hotel! lol

Thanks, friends! Our electricity came back last night - there were 4 ComEd trucks in front of our house. Lisa, the first thing I did after lighting candles was to let the water in the upstairs sink drip to keep the pipes from freezing - that was my biggest concern. I didn't want to go to sleep til the power came on because I worry about hypothermia - Roy thinks I'm nuts, but he's a lot tougher than I am! If we were in another climate, losing the electricity would be a big inconvenience, but this time of year in the midwest it's just plain dangerous.
