Hello,
There is a new review posted by a fellow cruise-addict on the review board.
This gentleman truly knows how to vacation and enjoy the quality time spent with his family
rather than nit-picking carpet colors. For those sailing on the Zuiderdam or contemplating doing so, I recommend you review his post in order to get a recent cruisers observations.
All the best and smooth sailing!

Yes, a great review. As I was reading, I noted his reference to much of the negativity about the Zuiderdam coming from the CC board. It goes beyond that. I have actually received hate mail from posters there because I had the audacity to post a positive review of the Z. The Z has been referred to by some of these folks as "one of the most hated ships in existance" (even though they admit to never have set foot on her), and I should be chastised for viewing her otherwise. Go figure!

Cruzman,
It's amazing the negative naysayers. It is my opinion that some people are just "Oscar the Grouches." I was on the Norwegian Dawn last month and there was an older lady who was so miserable and nasty that the carpet could roll up. People like that can also turn-off the crew and fellow passengers. Of course, we all have our bad days and not every vacation is as good as others but I have had many vacations not as good as others
but a happy attitude is so important. I also find that many cruisers only like one particular ship, line etc. I enjoy trying them all so while I may like HAL, RCCL, NCL, Cunard...they are all different experiences and diversity is part of the fun. But...I will still have on my happy face because I am happy to be alive and able to travel.
All the best!

I found it very funny that this ship was supposed to be the best of all culinary experiences.I am a foody and was looking forward to this trip just to see what was on the menu in the Visa and the Odyessy.
One night the waiter asked for our dessert choice.Bananas foster was on the menu.Having it in New Orleans(where it originated) I couldn't wait.
When my dish was put in front of me I told our waiter he gave me the wrong dessert."Oh no this is how the chef makes it." Are you sure? It was a dish of chocolate pudding with a couple of cut-up bananas on the bottom.I have many other examples but people have there differing opinions. We were 16 and the same sentiment was had by all.The food was plentiful but not 5 star or a 25 on the Zagat rating like I was led to believe. We had an excellant lobster for the farewell dinner. This was by far the best menu of all the nights and the best variety all in one night(Lobster, beef wellington, shrimp). The Odyssey for $20.00p.p. was not worth the type of food or service you are paying extra for.Maybe we had an off night because we never went again but nothing special only quantity. We were 2 tables of 8 and the feeling was across the board..just ok but not worth it.(we treated everyone for our 25th anniversary)

I think you should feel very honored. :) Apparently, Chef made you a new rendition of Bananas Foster (as a special treat :)) that we have never seen on any HAL ship ever.
DH ALWAYS orders the flambe of the evening, and in well over 30 servings he has enjoyed, on all of the HAL ships, he has always been served the traditional Bananas Foster we all know and recognize. Never did he have any chocolate pudding ....darn, he probably would have liked it as an interesting change of pace.:)

Welcome to the Board. I notice this is your fifth post.

Jerseygirl, being your first ship experience, I would try another ship, so you have something to compare this all too. Cruising may not be for you. Try the Silver Cloud for that 25 Zagat rating, and let me know what kinda deal you find! ;-)

Thank you for the suggestion.I am hoping our next trip is a cooking class in Italy.
I will not be posting anything else unless there are questions directed to me.
Thank you all for your help with the cruise.....Happy cruising!!!!

We just returned yesterday from a Zuiderdam cruise. We definitely had problems with noise and vibration in our cabin which was 4th level aft. We had family in another cabin on 4th level aft. They had the same problem. Our steward said he gets lots of complaints about the vibration and noise. The ship gave us unoccupied cabins to sleep in since we could not sleep on the 4th - 7th nights due to speed of ship. . I'm not a whiner and I can sleep through vibration, etc. This was not due to rough seas, etc. This is noise, shaking and vibration like you sometimes experience upon take-off in an airplane. On the other hand, our dining room experience was fine. We were in the lower aft area of the dining room, but the ship slowed down during dinner and we didn't experience the vibration and noise until after dinner. We have cruised on other lines, but this was our first HAL. We found the ship's crew very friendly and nice. Overall, we had a wonderful time. But, not being able to rest in your cabin at night definitely is a problem. I hope this will be corrected in December.
