Princess' ships are very different than Carnival's and RCI's.  The Dolphin Deck mini-suites aren't covered on the Grand Class ships (Grand, Golden & Star) and some are not covered on the Island and Coral Princess.  The ones that aren't covered are very deep compared to the covered ones.  The ships are stepped out so that the side of the ship isn't completely straight up and down.  There are some pics in the photo galleries here.

For the Island Princess, if you want a completely covered balcony, go with those on the Aloha or Baja Decks or on the "bump out" sections in the mid-ship area (preferable to the aft or stern areas).

If you want 1/2 covered, half uncovered and a deeper balcony, go with a reg. balcony cabin on the Caribe Deck.

If you want a mini-suite that is completely uncovered, go for those on the Dolphin Deck that are NOT in the bump out sections, again, preferably midship.

Hope that helps a little.  I know it's confusing at first.  :)
