I have booked an AC level mini-suite on Dolphin(D616) for a cruise on the Island Princess to Alaska in June. I have just found out that the balcony is not covered. I will contact my ta to change this booking but would appreciate any assistance that could be provided. I am willing to upgrade to an AB or AA if necessary. I would like a balcony that is at least partially covered. Does anyone know how to find out which cabins have covered balconie? Thanks, Fran

We had a mini-suite that was a bump out one on Aloha on the Coral Princess in Feb 2003..it was for our 10 day Panama Canal trip...it was one of 4 bump out minis on Aloha, Baja , and Caribe..the Coral is sister to the Island..we loved that room...in Fact for the Island Princess in 2007 15 day RT LA to Hawaii I am in fact booking A503 again!!..it was covered about 1/2 way for the entire day..and it will be PERFECT for us in this cruise..not sure if it interests you but it was :thumb for us..we cruise as a couple and that mini-suite was the best!!. our best friends had the one on the other side of the bump out and loved theres too.... Happy research...:daisy..Joanne

Like Joanne said above, you have to get a mini-suite on the bump out sections. I recommend the mid-ship ones, not the aft or fore ones. The balcony will be smaller than the mini-suites on the Dolphin Deck, but you'll be covered. :)

We are cruising for the lst time on Island Princess to Hawaii on 3/5/05. We have had balcony cabins on Carnival and R CL. I don't understand what you are talking about. Covered balconies? You mean they aren't under the balconies on the decks on top of you? My husband is booking the cruise tomorrow, so I'd appreciate any in put so I can tell him what to request. Thanks.

Princess' ships are very different than Carnival's and RCI's. The Dolphin Deck mini-suites aren't covered on the Grand Class ships (Grand, Golden & Star) and some are not covered on the Island and Coral Princess. The ones that aren't covered are very deep compared to the covered ones. The ships are stepped out so that the side of the ship isn't completely straight up and down. There are some pics in the photo galleries here.

For the Island Princess, if you want a completely covered balcony, go with those on the Aloha or Baja Decks or on the "bump out" sections in the mid-ship area (preferable to the aft or stern areas).

If you want 1/2 covered, half uncovered and a deeper balcony, go with a reg. balcony cabin on the Caribe Deck.

If you want a mini-suite that is completely uncovered, go for those on the Dolphin Deck that are NOT in the bump out sections, again, preferably midship.

Hope that helps a little. I know it's confusing at first. :)

Okay, so that didn't work. Try this and if it doesn't work, go to the photo galleries, click on "List galleries alphabetically" and then go down to Grand Princess 2001 - I think it's the second to last Grand Princess one. There's quite a few good pics of the sides.

Than you so much for all your help! I will print up the information and give it to my husband. I went to the photo galleries and found listing for Grand Princess 2001 but can't pull up the pictures! I am not computer dumb. What am I doing wrong? All I get are the messages. Thanks again.

OK - Now I'm concerned. We are going on the Grand December 11th. We booked a mini-suite AD category and were assigned 721-E. Then we got upgraded to 529-D (Category AA). Others in our group got upgraded also to 527-D and 405-D. Then we have someone in 709-D who was not upgraded. Is this good or bad? From the pictures in the cruise pamphlet it looks like 709-D is right across from the laundramat. How about the rest of us? Anyone had any of these cabins? Completely uncovered? Size of balconies? What would I do without you guys out there? Thanks! Karen

Yes, D709 is still a great location, although midship is my personal favorite. D709 is close to the laundry room (very quiet) and the aft elevators. We had D701 and loved it. The balconies on ALL Dolphin Deck mini-suites are uncovered. You have a clear view of the stars at night and the sun during the day. It's a great place to lay out in the sun if you want a little peace and quiet away from the pool areas.

Karry - I don't know why you can't pull up the pictures if you're logged in and can post. Anyone else know?
