I ordered our cruise... in doing so... I put my mother-in-laws name as Virginia... which is LEGALLY her middle name ! Well, I called Carnival & they quite SNOTTILY told me it would be $50 to change the name ! I asked WHAT ? WHY ? they said you are changing passengers - I said WE ARE NOT... I said she has same DOB, same SS # and same passport # ! I then said, IM NOT PAYING IT ! The little rep said, if u dont she could be denied access to board... I let them know I was NOT happy.... a few minutes later she came back & said ITS CHANGED - WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED HELP WITH ? :-(( RUDE !! so... then she tells me... we can do a will-call for the corrected doc... then I called Carnival again (with another ?) and wanted to verify the name thing... then was told they were mailing new docs ! OH BROTHER... u never get the same story twice ! I Tell you what... if there is a $50 charge... that $50 will come out of somewhere else as this is totally stupid IMHO !!

So... I would say according to Carnival... names must be RIGHT ! They say its a IMMIGRATION ISSUE !!! blah blah blah....

good luck !

CELEBRATION 05-03-04 (woo hoo)

Ye s, I be;ieve it would cause a delay.... especially with customs etc..... Double check with the cruise agency Directly.... not just your own agent ....HAve then fax you verification of what they tell you and take it with you.... make sure you get the persons name and work identification number so they cannot act like they know nothing at all when approached... It is always better to be safe then sorry...

If your documents show that your fun pass is completed and the computer shows the name changes I don't think there will be a problem in boarding. If you are still concerned re-check with your Carnival Personal Vacation Planner....but hopefully, he/she knew what they were talking about to begin with. I'd also print out a copy of the information that is online and take it with you. (You could also ask your CPVP to send you an email stating from him that the names changes were made by him...that might help if any questions do arise.)

thank you all so much! Since I am also travelling with a baby...don't want to be delayed,
I am going to call and tell my pvp that I need the corrected documents-period. I think he will just do it- thus far he has been great- answered every call- no matter what time of day and all of my emails and even apologized for misspelling the names to begin with.
Thank you- ill let u know- I just thought I might have a problem getting on the ship- or even worse getting back on while in Mexico with my baby still aborad! Yikes!!!!

Once you get on board all of your documents would be the correct ones
you don't use the documents they send you once you check in from then on its the sign and sail card and your ID
I would go with the info on the fun pass
the carnival people as we checked in coulldn't have been nicer so I think they will do all they can to help you

Steph,

You don't travel much do you?
You think $50 is bad? Try to change airline tickets! oh what the hell, why they make such a big deal! They should just let everyone just go and not care about names or anything like that... I mean, it's not like it's a plane! or like if we're going to another county or nuttin'

Hell, they act as if national security was a big issue! Names and personal information are superfluos, I mean we're americans right? Isn't that obvious? why should we have to prove it? Bad things only happen to other countries, not our!

If the names are correct online, and you have the proper ID's with you such as passport that match the online documents in spelling, then the docs are not that important.

pretty girl,

Actually I do travel a considerable amount... being born in UK & adopting internationally... this just seemed trivial to me when I actually didnt CHANGE anything... maybe I was a little intense with my posting... maybe its just the stress of organizing a trip fro 4 different people with 4 differnt personalities... sorry to have ruffled your feathers ! I for one, am all for NATIONAL SECURITY... I thought by securing passports for everyone in our party... life would only get easier... what can I say ?

Happy travels to you & yours !

Uh...steph texas. As a frequent traveller, you should KNOW that you never use middle names when booking things like airline tickets and cruises.

No you do not need new docs. as long it is correct in the computer all is well and it will not cause ant delay.

jedgar is right. As long as the correction is made on the ship's Manifest, you'll be fine.

I had my first name misspelled once before. Wasn't a big issue though. they had my first name spelled as "Kymberly" when really its just "Kimberly" but didn't have any problem at all. My sail and sign card and plane tickets,,everything was spelled like that and no biggy.... but maybe that's not a big of problem as having the last name wrong..
Anyway.....

Happy Cruising!

ok once again... to clear the issue... when I booked the cruise... I did not KNOW my mother-in-laws name was NOT her 1st name... yes Ive been married in this family for 17 yrs tomorrow... but I always thought the name I called her was her 1st name... so as I stated it was my fault ... my fault for not verifying I guess.... lesson learned...

Happy travels to you & yours

One letter off (pretty common) is far less of a deal than an entire name. For example: Your (LEGAL) first name is Robert Smith , but you always go by your (LEGAL) middle name of Edward Smith....so you book under Edward Smith. When you show up at the pier, they are looking for your (LEGAL) FIRST name (Robert), and when they see you are booked under your (LEGAL) MIDDLE name of Edward, there could very well be a problem with boarding, as the name on the Manifest does not match the name on the birth certificate or Passport. Always book under your LEGAL FIRST AND LAST NAME.

okay just to clarify we are talking one of my sons is listed with an entriely different and last name!!!! 2 of the kids are 1 letter off, I figured they would be ok- but the entire last name...and to complete things he is not of this marriage so my ex-husband's name is on the birth cert- not my current husband. I guess I figured that with one name completely wrong and 2 a little off...well frankly I'd be a little concerned if they did let me on w/o new documents...do you agree? I mean...I do agree with the nat'l security concerns here! What do you all think??? Thanks...you have all been so helpful already!

What you need to do is get a notarized letter from your ex-husband giving you permission for you to take him on this cruise....even though you're his mother. The letter should also state the name of the ship and the dates of the cruise. You are taking your/his child out of the country. If the rest of you have the same last name, but he has a different last name, there could be a problem at boarding.

Thanks for the info about the other parent (in this case lack there of- total deadbeat )actually I dont need anything for my son- I have legal and physical custody. and my husband is his legal gardian...I just meant that with his last name (my son's) being wrong on the cruise odcs and then his biological father on the bitrh cert- just added hassle...I'm only worried about the names..I have the court custody papers ready to go, but thanks.....

Hi SCRAPPERGIRLISI,

Sounds like you did the right thing and should have no problems at embarkation. Your problem was not unusual and is why the cruise line insists that your documents go through the TA so that a knowledgeable individual reviews the documents for any errors. In your case the TA apparently had a problem with the names and didn't catch the errors as he should have. Much better to clear up any problems early on and be comfortable when boarding. Have a great cruise!

Peter
