Anyone ever replaced the heating element in your dryer? We got ours when we bought our first house 13 years ago. It is a low end Kenmore model, so we spent very little money on it. Wondering if it is worth the cost to replace the heating element, or if I should take the opportunity to upgrade. Anyone ever repaired a dryer and have a cost estimate? Thanks in advance :)

Are you sure the ducts don't need cleaning? Ours is very long and was encrusted with about 30 years worth of lint. DH got a kit & cleaned it out and things dry in less than half the time it had been taking .
Dryers seem to last forever. Not too much to them, air, heat, tumble.

What are your symptoms? When my dryer was acting up, I searched the internet for a diagnosis from the symptoms and found I just needed a blower wheel, which was cheap and somewhat easy to fix. Hubby fixed it, using the diagram off the internet. (And he really isn't very adept mechanically.) I figured if he was stumped we'd call a repairman. There really isn't much to a dryer.

It could be the ducts as Rubysky mentioned if it wasn't drying properly. That would cut the efficiency alot.

repairclinic.com is wonderful. I use them when I need help for all kinds of appliances.

Since you have a Sears product getting the part is a snap, which is the hard part. If you can operate a screw driver you can change the element. If you have a problem with dust you will need to wear a mask, also you may want to consider changing the rollers and the belt since you will have the dryer apart. Getting back to your question, if you are half way handy changing the heating element is EZ. Good luck.

could be worse, rather than your dryer petering out; your peter could be drying out
