We had 3 medical evacuations and 2 deaths on our 14 day cruise, one of each this day. Here are shots of the helicopter evac:

Copter approaching

Rescuer preparing to be lowered

Lowering down to the ship

Hanging above the ship

Landing on the Helipad

Rescuer #2 on his way down

Lowering the basket

Oops. sorry. I wondered if I should put this on this board, but wondered how "cruise related" something had to be. Thanks, Mod.

You are talking about something that happened on your cruise. How much more cruise related can you get?

I'll bet the captain was glad when that cruise was over. No one needs that kind "excitement" on a regular basis.

Wow -- 3 medical evacutions and 2 deaths on your cruise. That is terrible for all the families invovled. Hope it didn't dampen the spirts of everyone else.

Actually, the captain's contract was up in the middle of our cruise, and he was replaced.

As you can guess, these medical issues were a topic of conversation throughout the cruise. We were told about the World Cruise, that is nicknamed the Viking Death Cruise. They said that during a 90 day cruise, they average 10 deaths. We also were told that it is recognized that many people who know they are terminal will book a cruise at the "appropriate time," because it is their wish to die at sea. Sad.
