I think you made a good choice staying with the Mercury - hope you have a great cruise. You may want to keep your eye on the prices. SInce I have booked my 1/03 cruise on the Mercury, prices have alread dropped once, which let me upgrade my cabin category for the same money. As we get closer, they may just drop again. Early January typically has some of the best bargains, and the fact that this cruise leaves on a Friday could mean it won't fill up as fast as those leaving on a Saturday or Sunday. Even if prcies don't drop further, it still sounds like you got a very good deal on a very good ship. Best of luck.
