Meet cruise at next port

Hi,
We have two nights in Egypt coming up in October and since it's 2.5-3 hours one way into Cairo we're thinking about leaving the ship in Alexandria, and staying at a hotel, and then meeting the ship at the next port (Port Said) the next evening. That way we can maximize our sightseeing and minimize the long travel days. Has anyone done this successfully? Is there any trouble with the cruise line (Norwegian)? Any fines, etc.? I'm aware that it's against policy, but people miss the all aboard times all the time, so the only difference I see is that I know I'm missing the boat ahead of time. Please don't give opions here, just personal knowledge and/or experience.

Thanks!

No actual experience, other than stories told and things heard.
If you are saying that you would tell no one, but just leave the ship in one port and not reboard before sailing, then you are causing confusion for the ship. They only see two passengers that are missing. So the local authorities will be notified etc.
You could turn up at the next port and find that the cruise line is not amused, and you are denied boarding. Your cabin steward will pack your bags..if they have not already done so.. and you will be finding your own way home.

Contact the cruise line and say what you wish to do, and is it feasible.

This is one instance where the saying..” it is better to ask forgiveness than ask permission” may not be the best route to take.

If the cruise line does grant permission, please come back to this site and let us know.

Good luck.

Einstein just reminded me of another reason not to do this…

We were on our way to Antarctica. We stopped in Buenos

Aires… a couple did exactly as you plan.

The ship was supposed to return to this port in two days.
Unfortunately the weather changed that plan. And the next destination was Antarctica! No ports down there.
We can not remember where they finally joined the ship again, but they missed ALL of Antarctica, and only had about a week left of this amazing cruise before the 34 night cruise ended.
Weather or strikes or unrest could change your itinerary in a heartbeat.
