A belated good morning all!! Got that first hot cuppa and trying to get my eyes open. come on by lets chatr and catch up on things.

had a good session at the water aroebics, did not relize I had stiffened up so much.Kitchen light quit a few days ago so Paw was looking for a new fixture. We checked the few places that sell lights in Bolivar. Some of these type places that are so big need to remember they have handicapped customer too. The one place we thught might have it has no parking near their door they have merchandise blocking entrance-they are big warehouse type and have no scooters so paw tried one door and it was locked and he could not get near the other. We went home and put the groceries away and he suggested we drive north to our old home town for lunch and to look for fixture. Nice day for a ride . There is a really good Mexican resturant here that we hit for lunch way too much food and carbs but was good. I brought enough home for two moe meals. He found the light fixture he wanted nd we drove round town just looking at changes since we moved 27 years ago. Felt dumb could not identify the house we lived in for 15 years before that. Paw then suggested we take long way home and we took out on highway headed to Warsaw crossing severa arms of Truman Lake b eutiful scenery. There we took off cross country on a little used road for short cut home. Let me tellyou don't think one lick of work done on that road in 27 years. We used to make this trip most Wednesday nights. We went to Warsaw and ate t a BarBQue then came to lake and played cards then back home to Clinton.. Lots of chnges. Since price of gas gone up we haven't taken out on these day excursions. I miss them and I have a few more in mind for this fall.

Okay manners patrol have a question. Living in a rural area s we do we hve never been exposed to charm schools and etiquette. I think we hve always been used to more refined eating but know I have a lot to learn. My fathers family were much more formal than my mothers. We have always sat down to table together with table clothes napkins and the food was always plain country eating, with bowls passed country style, you cleaned your plate and said thank you and please. I love trying new foods especailly on the ship but I really can be satisfied with just a taste. I found myself left with plates full every meal as ppetite is shrunk. I almost cried the night I coud not swallow more than a bite of souffle. My family ended up sharing many bites so we could ll try new tastes. As I was leaving so much on my plate if son or his children liked it they ate it . How far off manners is this? Is there a good way to share?

What is happening in your corner of the sandbox?

Good Morning Maw & @ddict friend's,
I'am still trying to get my eye's open too Maw, I stayed in bed until almost 7:00am this morning, really late for me.
Your ride yesterday sound's like alot of fun. I enjoy doing them now & then just to see how thing's have changed. With the price of gas as it is, I don't do it very oftern any more. I would like to go down to my sister-in-law's in Oct. the color's are alway's so beautiful.
I got the end of my stuff put away yesterday & the suitcases are ready to go back to the basement until Feb. I also spent time on the computer checking airfare & hotel's for Feb, man that's alot of work, so much to look at. I think we will go down on Thur.s the 19th & come home on Tue. the 3rd.
Maw, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to eat or not eat everything on a ship. It's just so much with starting out with that wonderful bread & then the appit. & then soup & salad & then the meal. like we told the waiter's, we need to save room for desert.
Take care

Good morning Maw. Sounds like you had a great day yesterday. Much as it is wonderful to go away especially on a cruise with family, it is good to get back and go back to a routine. Our little town here has seen a lot of changes in the 4 years that we have been here. And not all good! There are so many townhouse complexes going up with no parking for visitors so they plug up the streets. And in the complex that dd lives in, most of her neighbors use their garages as workshops and use any visitors parking for their cars.

So far it is a dry cloudy morning. Haven't heard what is expected but no doubt there will be some rain. But for sure it will start getting sunny and hot in a couple of weeks when the kids are all back at school!! 'Murphy's Law'

Have a great day!

Liz

good morning everyone. I love listening to your stories about your neighbourhood - just sounds so different from the big cities I've always lived in. Sounds lovely!

I've never hesitated to share my food on a cruise. It's always so good, and you're right I eat way too much. Hubby always ends up switching plates with me to eat what's left on my plate. I think everyone does it, so I wouldn't worry about manners. I think they'd rather see the food eaten than thrown away.

Well, another cool, cloudy day here today. I don't think it's supposed to rain today, but it's definitely not sunny! We had such a short summer compared to other years. We had 4 good weeks in July, then it's been off and on since then. I remember when we used to have 2 good months of summer.

I have to work in my travel agent office today, so hopefully people will walk in and want to book a cruise! I had a couple last weekend that wanted to get married onboard next year. I gave them a bunch of information, just hope they weren't using me for information - then will go elsewhere. That happens a lot.

Oh well, it's all experience for me.

Have a great day everyone!

Terry

Morning gang,Maw that is the one thing we treat ourselves to every weekend, driving around our beautiful state of CO,rather than a 30 dollar movie,or expensive lunch,or high priced concert, ect. we spend about 10 dollars in gas and 2.50 in coffee from gas station and explore our world,of course it helps to have a convertible,I dont know how we lived before we got that car,I love it!

As a child I was always told to eat everything on my plate, and my weight shows it,I told my kids try what you have on your plate,if you dont like it fine, but try it,and you dont have to finish either, when you are full push away from the table, children are obese today, they dont exercise,or go outside, just computers, games, electronics, and eating,so hopefully if I EVER have grandkids they wont force food on my grandkids either but make them have a diversified plate and try everything once, lol!

Sink still plugged, going to give it one more try this weekend before calling plumber, thought I had it cleared last night but plugged up again! At least the Packers finally won a pre season game and Aaron Rodgers looked really good!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning Maw, Paw and C@ Gang!!!

Maw - I enjoyed your trip, thanks for sharing your day with us, and I am glad that you and Paw were able to get out and about and enjoy the drive and reminisce.

As far as manners go, we are food sharers in our family and circle of friends. Is this bad manners? I personally don't think so. Sometimes there is just too much on ones plate and you know you can't eat it all, why not share? Plus, sometimes, something in SO good that you just Have to share a bite with the others. The other night we were out with some friends, there were 7 of us total, and we ordered one sinful chocolate cake slice and 7 forks. Works for us, may not for others, I personally don't worry about it. LOL

Speaking of food...today for breakfast I had a tahini & honey on toast. Tahini is sesame butter, and if you mix it with honey and put it on toast it is delightful. I normally use it to make hummus, but this is another use for it. I love it and have been eating this since the 70's. Yum!!

Happy Saturday C@'s!!

Maw,

Technically, to share food, you should have the waiter divide the food before you eat from it and put it on a separate plate to be delivered to the recipient.:girly

That being said, with 7 kids here, we are just happy if no one licks the food before they throw it to you!::o

Good morning everyone!

Enjoying cruising the net and drinking my coffe this am. Today is French Vanilla - I always make a pot of flavored coffe on the weekends - as that is the only day I sit and enjoy my coffee. During the week it is up, shower and off to work before I get a cup of "mud" at work! lol

Kinda overcast today - but the sun is peeking out here and there. Had a good night at the club - raffled off 58 packages of steaks, ribs, sausage, etc. Of course Jim and I didn't win anything. We usually don't! lol They sure love those Barnyard raffles. Tonight is the horse races - I sure hope we have a good turn out. Should be alot of fun - think I will take my camera and take some photos!

Well, the planning to take the kids on a 4 day cruise is back on hold. You can sure tell DIL knows nothing about cruising. After check with her a month ago for dates and planning and getting everything organized - airfare, car, cruise, etc. Fianl check with her and she says - Oh - I forgot they have a ballgame that night and can't go - -can't you reschedule for Nov. Thank heavens I didn't go ahead and book the room - just had it on 24 hour hold - - I was so upset - -I don't even want to think about planning again.

Hope you all have a great day - -be careful and enjoy the weekend.

Morning Maw and gang. It sounds like you had a nice ride Maw.

The weekend is going to be hot and beautiful. I will finally be able to get the lawn mowed and weed the flower gardens. It will be good to get outside this weekend with no rain.

I am going to hit the shower now go do the grocery shopping. Then home to clean and do the outside work. Then I will relax for the rest of the weekend.

I ordered some books from half.com but they won't be here for about a week so I may break down and buy one locally and do some more reading this weekend.

Other than that is is just enjoying the nice weather and resting I have a very busy week ahead of me next week.

I made my reservations to go home and will be there ten days. That should be enough time for me to clean up the mess my tenants made of my house and to paint and do windows etc. And then I can list the house for rent again.

Everyone have a good day. The end of summer is near enjoy the beautiful days.

Morning ramblers,

Well it finally cooled down a bit here today - it's 60 degrees now with a high in the low 70's. My kind of day. If only it would rain. I am thankful, though, for the cool down.

Sheets are in the washer and we unloaded and defrosted our big freezer! I hate that job and I don't do it without the boss because I am only 5'1'' and I can't even reach the bottom of it to get the stuff out and wipe it out! I like to take inventory of what's still in there (because of course, there are things down in the bottom I can't ever see and I forget they're there!) and then we reorganize and put things back in orderly (which lasts about 2 weeks!). We hunt and fish so we try to eats lots of venison, fish, pheasants, grouse, duck and goose but it gets pretty messed up in that freezer and stuff always gets buried. Now with all the garden produce going in on top I will need to try to keep things a bit more organized. I found 12 freezer bags of rhubarb from LAST summer that I put on top to try and use this fall. We always end up throwing a few things away because they are old/freezer burnt and I always feel bad about having gone to work to take care of it and freeze it and then it doesn't get used. I'm trying to do a better job this year. The rising increase in groceries is a real incentive for me.

Maw - I think it's okay to eat someone else's food. The only thing I don't like is when someone takes food off another's plate while it is still in front of the original owner. The boss almost always eats the rest of my dinners, BUT I make sure to switch plates with him so his empty one is in front of me and he has mine. And yes, we've ordered one dessert on one plate and shared it, both sticking our forks/spoons in it. Maybe none of our table mates have had the nerve to inform us that we lack etiquette! We'll dine with you and Paw anytime!

Off to the races here - as usual, too many things on the list and not nearly enough time!

Have a great Saturday all.

K.

:grin Good Morning Maw....love to read your stories.

.Mark ,and I share on ship..Lord knows he's a foot taller and a 100# heavier so he has the ability to hold that weight while I really guard myself.; I have some ."snacks" and we share dessert tastes.or "try it's".
. and all of our kids tend to be lean.. lucky for them.we'll see how the grands do.. we are all sports folks too.. and electronics were very limited for time use in our home.. we shall see.throwing out of food was a sin with my grands being from the Depression years.. we do watch portions, also it's a lifestyle.. on vacation though we enjoy..and share between the 2 of us..I figure what you do is fine, I am not a Leticia Baldridge stickler for pure manners anyways..

.. .I am sipping a cuppa, and relaxing as last night at work was WILD..and to top it off I came with with the keys to the narcotics IN my pocket of clothes so at 1AM drove BACK to work to give them to the night nurse.. :evil 30 &^%$ years as a nurse never done it.. had to do it last night after a ZOO night,..sigh.. never fell asleep till after 2AM.. back tonight for another night of fun and games of 3-11PM..you can bet your Sweet Bippy ..I will be checking my pockets to make sure I have relinquished said narcotic keys BACK to the next Charge Nurse!!..=eek..

got bacon sizzling ; for fried eggs, &diet toasts for Mark I just want coffee for now..

got tomorrow off, and not much planned rest of today till I head on Duty..I caught up yesterday.. hope it's a good day gang..:daisy..Joanne

Maw - sounds like you and Paw had a glorious day roaming around, and getting the needed light fixture.

As for your question about food, I'd say that anyone who would comment about you and your family or friends sharing food needs to come down off their high & mighty horse! What I would suggest on board ship - since you're always among friends and/or family - ask your table steward to bring an extra plate so you can place food you know you can't eat on it and pass it around. Also, you (or your TA or group leader, as the case may be) can alert the table captain and steward at the beginning that you eat small portions and to please serve you small portions so food doesn't go to waste. If you're on a restricted diet (for example, low fat or low sodium or low cholesterol), let your TA know and that will be brought to the attention of the cruise line. Finally, you (or your group leader) can always ask your table captain at dinner to bring you the next night's menu so you can look it over. If there's nothing suitable, you can ask for something special.

Well the walley world run is made, I did get a couple of books to hold me over. Mike got the oil and filter to change the oil in my car I have got to get my inspection this week one day and then get the car registration renewed. We got the groceries done and were home by noon. I got the lawn mowed and my flowers fertilized and watered. All of that rain we got for 4 days really helped the lawn. It actually smelled like grass when I mowed today. :grin

Now I'm working on the house inside. I went out to weed my side garden but the neighbors are painting their house and had sprayed wasps. The wasps were really nasty mad and were swarming around me so I said outta here.......... I'm allergic to wasps big time. I'll have to do that garden tomorrow. One day this week I came home and an envelope was sitting on my desk. Inside was a cute note from a neighbor 3 streets down. She told me her name and thanked me for my flower bed out there, she said she really enjoys it and had taken pictures. She must be one of the people who walk by each day. She had enclosed a picture. I thought how nice. I'll send her a thank you note!

Thanks everyone for helping regarding the etiquette. Usually I would slip some off the side I had not eaten on to a bread plate and pass to others. I did taste some entrerees by requesting a side dish portion. My appetite has shrunk so and I have trouble swalowing at times leave so much. I will remember t request the portions be cut in half when brought to share. I would sure like to have back part of that choclate Soufle I could not swallow.

Tomorrow we are taking dd, sil, & the two kids out for dinner for dd & sil's birthdays and if we have any dessert, we will order 1 and 6 forks. None of us are into having desserts and dd is on a diet.

Well, I suppose that we and our traveling companions could be accused of appearing to be complete barbarians, but since I have been cruising with a close group of friends over the past 7-10 yrs. we have all taken to to sharing food, passing plates and even have been know to stab something on a plate a person away.....:lol And on this last cruise to the MED, since we had two guys with KILLER METABOLISMS, whatever was left on plates was passed their way. It has actually become quite fun.....we consider it sharing germs and building up immunity!

If the cruise lines can't maintain a dress code.......then decorum goes out the door......as do manners. ;) What is it that the new cruise clients say???.......hmmmm..... oh yeah, "It's MY vacation and I do as I please!" ::o ;) :lol
