I don't usually post from work but I'm taking a break. It is only 1:30 pm here and I'm ready to go home. :grin
Have you ever asked your boss if she is blonde? I did, two days in a row now. Good thing Dena and I are good friends!
Dena and I were up to our ears in financials yesterday. She is new at management so not really sure about how to read and incorporate into categories where these things need to go to balance. I'm new at it here, but have some 20 years plus of having budget experience, so I help her. But, we had a visitation last night too so I was also trying to do the set up while she cursed about the financials. Every now and then I would go in and help her but I had about 30 flower pieces to set, and I was also working on the funeral folders and book pages for the guest book. LOL
Yesterday morning I had trouble faxing it kept saying busy so I just figured on the other end there was a problem. But when I went to fax my evening schedule out at the end of the day it still didn't work. So I picked up the handset and realized we didn't have a dial tone. Now I am on my hands and knees tracing the phone wire. Remember I work in an old building and everything is on extensions etc. So everything looked fine until I got to the cabinet which holds the fax machine. This cabinet is about 4 feet long Formica topped. We had a visitation ongoing that Dena was tending to, I was printing the folders and trying to get my evening paperwork sent to our answering service at the same time. Anyway I ended up having to move this cabinet by myself to get behind there on my stomach to trace the phone wire. Wallah......the extension on the phone cord had come unplugged. I finally got my paperwork faxed and my folders printed. I'm 30 minutes over my quit time and started folding the folders for today's service. Dena comes in and asks what's up. I say, it is so weird I think we have ghosts the phone line to the fax was unplugged behind the cabinet. She looked at me and said ooooops. I replied back, oops what???? She admitted that she had dropped a bottle of hand sanitizer behind there in the morning and didn't stop to dig it out. My comment. Are you blonde? Do you know what I just went through I asked? LOL We laughed about it though she had no way of knowing it unplugged the fax. Dena is a red head, not blonde but sometimes ......And she knows she can be spacey Good thing I really like her!
Anyway Dena had a meeting with the GM and the RM this morning regarding the financials. We had a service where the coach was coming here (pool director) to get our decedent and the flowers and Dena was going to meet him at the church. However the flowers floweth over, and he needed someone to help him unload the casket at the church. Of course the family picked a beautiful cherry hardwood casket. OMG that thing empty weighs a ton. And, I think we had close to 40 flower pieces by the time all were delivered this morning. The limos were going directly to the family homes to pick up the family to drive them to the church, and the flowers would not even begin to all fit into the coach. Soooooo I helped the director load the casket into the coach. He is one of my favorite pool directors. When I pushed that casket up the ramp he said OMG Judy you are strong, you almost knocked me over! :grin He goes about 280 pounds 6 foot 5 and looks like a football player! So we got the casket all loaded and thankfully I thought ahead and brought the van today. So I backed the van up to our garage and we loaded all the flowers inside. Our garage is on a one way alley road and instead of going all the way around, I just backed it up the road. :lol He was laughing at me. Boy you don't have a problem asserting yourself here do you he asked? I said you know if they can't see we are loading for a service and give us a break that is their problem. I transfered my phones to the service, locked up the building and followed the coach to the church and helped unload the casket and flowers and did the set up. We are not allowed under any circumstances to take our suit jackets off at any time. It was soooooo hot today. Even though it was only the minister there for the set up, we must remain in our suit coats whenever we are in public. By the time we did the lifts and got the flowers all set I was sweating! Anyway I got back here about 1.5 hours later and called Dena and left her a message to call me, because the church was not the one she was thinking of, and I needed to give her directions. :lol
Dena just got a new racey car. Well she is on her cell and I told her to take 32nd to Youngsfield, take a left on Youngsfield and go 1 block the church is on the right. She is on the phone with me telling me all about the financial meeting when she said Judy should I be going under I 70? No Dena what street are you on? 20th she said. I told her to turn around and go back. I said Dena the church will now be on your left. She went by it again ,as she is yacking away to me about the financial meeting. I'm back at the intersection of 20th and Youngsfield she said. OMG Dena can you drive less than 60mph in that car I asked? Turn around I told her and go one block the church is on your right. Judy I don't see it she says. Dena, "Are you blonde" I once again ask her. She is laughing I am laughing and she says OMG there it is I just drove by it. roflmao I knew she would never find it if I didn't give her directions it isn't a church we have been to before and we both thought it was one on the road out here closer to the mortuary. LOL I did a mapquest this morning. We are very much alike in personality except I like to prepare ahead and hate to do things last minute, Dena has a tendency to charge like a bull in a china shop. :grin.(Dena is me when I was in my 20's and 30's but I've learned to harness it a tad now.) So I guess we balance one another and I do understand her because she is me when I was younger.
Anyway the financial meeting went well, Dena got lots of Kudos from the RM about me and about our team here and management. So all in all it was a good day but I'm ready to go home now. What a fool I would have been not to take this job. I am so free to do so many new things and learn. And we have fun. And Dena just got me approval since I actually am acting as an assistant funeral director to earn bonus on pre-need funeral sales. That is cool too!
Oh well, I was interrupted as I typed. I guess 5pm is going to be much later tonight. I just got a call and a family who was supposed to be here at 4pm tonight to pre-need for an imminent death of dad and husband, has just passed and the case has gone at need. Just another day at the mortuary and I guess if I have to work it is good to be doing something I love helping people and with a great boss. Gotta go. Someone leave the lights on and have a drink ready for me later tonight! :grin
