Is a digital photo frame a good idea to take on a cruise?

The reason I ask…

My parents will be embarking on a 3 month cruise in January. For Christmas I was thinking of getting them an aura photo frame so that whilst they are away my sister and I could send them photos of our day to day lives and keep them updated without them needing to find signal to call us as often.

Would that work with normal WiFi? Are you allowed to have them on board?

Sorry for being so naive, I myself have never been on a cruise.

I have never had a wirelessly connected photo frame so I don't totally know how that part works but ... yes you can have a frame on board no problem. Wifi on a cruise ship is really expensive and is an add on. So are they even going to have wifi for the 3 month cruise?

I can only say from my experience on HAL that you can only have one item per person on wifi at a time so they would not be able to have their phone or computer on wifi while the frame was active. They would have to disconnect their device and put the frame on. Depending on their time zones this might not be great or if they are asleep while you are active you could send them IF they remember to turn the frame on to receive. My Mom’s frame doesn’t receive unless turned on. We did find it interfered with the internet to the tv and other devices in the house. I don’t think it’s very efficient and the fact they’d have to pack it, though a lovely idea. Why not just send pics to their phone via text or email and save the frame for their home when you want to let them know you are fine on your holiday by sending photos?
