Any cabin on a cruise is better than not taking the cruise at all.  By all means book what you can afford.  There is always enough window space and deck space in the public areas to view the scenery.  We had a balcony on our last Alaska cruise, but still went up on deck when we were in Glacier Bay.  Don't wait, do it now.
