Around 800 students in California Marched to another School and took down the US flag. They then replaced it with a Mexican Flag and then put the US flag back up UPSIDE Down underneath the MEXICAN Flag. This was done in 2006 when immigration protests were happening. However, The images are very powerful and quite disturbing. You can read the SNOPES link below which gives you some background and explanation well beyond the stun and shock of these images alone.

I know this is a hot issue and received this via email. I had not seen these photos before though and regardless of where you stand on immigration reform.. its disturbing to me as a US Citizen to see this done on US Soil.. let alone a school with students who are in the actual USA. The media obviously didn't share this with us because the outrage that would have probably resulted.

For a full explanation of these photos and the resulting school board action.

This may not be a politically correct response to that picture but my feeling is if you want to raise the Mexican Flag then go back to Mexico and have at it.

We have a really difficult immigration problem here in CO also. And I'm tired of the first words out of someone's mouth being do you speak spanish. NO I don't, I live in the USA and I speak English!

My SIL is an immigrant and he respects the American Flag, our values and before he ever moved to America he could speak English.
OK off of my soap box now.

my parents as well as my wife's parent's were immigrants. They came here LEGALLY; made sure they went to night school to learn English and were proud to be American citizens with a European heritage.

I'm sure my taxes went quite a way to make sure those students depicted in the picture above had a place to live, clothes on their backs, and pay their tuition!!!

Nuff said :X

All of us in the United States can trace our ancestry at some point back to another country. Our forebears came here to better themselves, work their guts out, and make something of themselves and a better life for their children.

I grew up - and taught - during the height of the controversial Viet Nam era. Seeing our beloved flag desecrated is nothing new to me. I rage with anger when I see that - and, quite frankly, don't care if anyone finds that statement offensive. You don't like the United States? Get out of here and go to the paradise where you feel you'll be better off.

I LOATHE seeing our flag desecrated. :X:X:X Our nation was built on immigrants - they came here LEGALLY. They worked hard, and proudly, to obtain their citizenship. Bless them all. Those who are here illegally, sucking the benefits from those who really need them...well...I'll just end my comments here before political correctness goes down the sewer.

I believe this is what's known as "give an inch, take a mile". We should have given them nothing to begin with! This is why our country is in the shi**er, because we are being dragged down by leeches. All these people who are soooo proud of their countries! Why are they here? Go back and be proud there. If you're so proud, build your country into something were you can actually live and work. Oh work, that's the magic word.

I have a very good frien whose husband is Mexican. Granted, he is college educated, but came to the country on a work visa (sponsored by his employer) and gained citizenship legally. My husband manages someone with a similar story. These people love and respect this country more than most people I know who have lived here their whole lives. They truly appreciate the privileges that come with being an American citizen. I don't know what the answer is, but people who behave like the ones in those pictures make me sick, and are the biggest part of the problem. If your loyalty is to Mexico, might I show you the border.

I have lived ALL over the USA, and my husband and I are from peasant immigrant stock who LEGALLY came over, busted their *ss and made it all right... and the values are stronger than ever.. wanna tick us off.. Pi$$ and moan about the USA etc, don't like it?? LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!...Joanne

I sometimes think our so called freedom's of speech and expressions have gone to far in our country. When I see someone burn, or desectate our flag it infuriates me.

My grandparents came from Italy and didn't speak English, but they LEARNED. They were proud to be here. They worked hard and raised 8 children without expecting the government to give them a free handout.

Can you imagine what would happen if we went to Mexico City and took down their flag in the middle of the city turned it up side down and put up the American flag????????? :? =twocents

We should close our borders. I won't say more because I don't want to offend anyone with how I really feel.

Yes, you have the right to free speech. LIkewise, I have the right to beat the imortal crap out of you!

Oh, wait. You're not a citizen? Just a parasite? Then why should you have any citizenship rights what so ever? Basic human rights, yes. The rights of an American Citizen ... NO!

Now you understand why some animals eat their children!

Way before I became a minister, I was (among other things) a sniper. It really wouldn't be that hard to go back to the old job ...

Re: Images are Powerful - US Flag Removed and Turned Upside Down

What's sad and pathetic about this event is the ignorance of these students. What may have been a funny prank to them to stir up trouble is nothing more than disrespect and plain stupidity on their parts. Obviously the adults (parents and teacher's) haven't taught these kids to be respectful of our country's flag and what it stands for. I'm sure they all got a big kick out of the joke as look at their silly smiling faces. In that crowd I see hoodlums that will not become grow up to be good citizens. I hope some will think back on how this was not the smartest thing they did in High School.

We are just starting to experience our flux of immigrants from Mexico here over the past 5-8 years. Some are illegal and there have been business raids in the surrounding counties. I agree that those coming here should do so the legal way. I also think they should learn the language so they can adapt and not the reverse. As far as them flying their home country flag - I have no problem with dual citizenship and those who are proud of their heritage. However, the US flag standing higher is the preferred method. My 2 cents for what it's worth.
