Wow. That's a scary subject line. But not as scary as the start of our cruise ...
Yes, we had a (wo)man overboard. The stories in the papers/press releases are a bit different from what we experienced (go figure). It happened about 2315 hrs (1115 pm), on Saturday, 03/08/08, while enroute from Ft Lauderdale to Key West.
A couple had been heard arguing in their balcony cabin. Very heated conversations. Lots of yelling, etc. Of course, no one called security. Don't want to get involved you know. Eventually, the comotion ended. About 45 minutes later, the husband contacted guest services to report his wife had "jumped" overboard.
45 minutes? Yeah, right.
The ship immediately contacted the Coast Guard and initiated a search. We continued to sail patterns off the Florida coast for 12 hours. Around 0900 hrs (Sunday) the husband was in the main lobby. Quite a scene. Yelling as screaming at the staff. Lotys of accusations. Lots of threats. While watching the drama, I noticed that the guests in the atrium bar area were quietly being directed out of the area and were being replaced by a number of men in plain clothes. As the husband became louder and more threatening, a couple of these "passengers' moved closer. I saw handcuffs being held behind the back of one of the men. The ship's officers, who were speaking with the husband, got him quieted down enough to escort him into an office. One of the "passengers" stood by the door and the others left the area, to return to their regular duties.
Eventually, the Captain announced that we were putting into port in Miami for "a technical problem".
Technical problem? Yeah, right.
We hove to off the Miami channel and were met by a small (unmarked) boat. The husband was escorted off the ship and two men, carrying large suitcases, were boarded. After the CSI tecnhicians were onboard, we set sail for the Cayman Islands, our next port.
Nothing more was ever heard about the event again...

On another note ... A great time was had by all. The Grub (grandson) was absolutely thrilled by the cruise. We're still on the road, visiting friends enroute back to Michigan. We should be home by Thurdsay and I'll get started on the review th
