Ice Cream on Princess....Free!

Okay, it's just that I read that on board the Grand Princess you *can* get free ice cream at a certain time in the Horizon Court. Is this true? It's supposedly not all the time, everywhere, just in the Horizon Court and only at this specified time. I can't remeber where I found this information on the net though, so I can't go back to it. Anyone know?

I don't know about that but my mom got HOMEMADE ice cream every night after dinner in the dining room.

It's around 3:30(ish) in the afternoon on the Grand. It's also free during lunch and dinner in the dining rooms :)

It was 3:30 to 4:30 in the Horizon Court, on the final sailing of the Ocean. Usually two kinds of ice cream, with some toppings. Remember they have fruit there too. You can make your own banana split, if you are so inclined.

We were on the golden on 10/12/02 for 7 days and it was at 4:00 in the horizon court. they had chocolate and vanilla plus toppings. You can also get it for lunch and dinner at the restaurants.

Please Princess, please quit charging for ice cream so we can cruise with you again. This charge is ridiculous. They could have had our business 14 other times if not for this.

Hey Brad, I agree. Everytime I tried to work out the money to cruise on Princess and factored in the cost of airfare, cruise, photos, shore excursions, drinks, etc. and then added $7.50 for ice cream, it put me over the hump and i couldn't do it.
If it had been free and I didn't have to add in that $7.50, I probably could have made it.

Brad, you are putting us on aren't you? Of all the items we are charged for on a cruise, the ice cream keeps you from choosing Princess???
As has been stated before, Princess has a contract with Haagen Daaz which when it expires supposedly will not be renewed. Then they can have gratis ice cream all the time if they choose.

To be honest, and I started this thread, I could care less if Princess charged for Ice Cream or not. I don't need ice cream free to me 24 hours a day. Who cares?

Im not putting you on, I could not go back, and have not been back, thought it was the ultimate slap in the face. I dont eat ice cream, I would love to return, I keep checking to see if they stop, and if they ever do stop charging, I will immediately book the Star. I dont believe the Haagen Daaz contract is expiring. I had an equally difficult time getting past the extra charges for meals, but have chosen to not participate. The ice cream thing, I cant get past. I have never cared about the charges for the cruise, I have paid $15,000 for some for the three of us, to $400 each for other cruises. Charge what you will, but throw in a scoop of ice cream if someone wants it. Does not have to be the premium stuff either.

But what would you do if no ice cream was served *at all* outside of the dining room? Why is ice cream so darn important to so many people? Do you really need it?

As I said, I DONT EAT ICE CREAM. have not for years. I would rather see them not offer it at all than to charge. I hear they started offering it in horizon on some ships. Big deal, they are still charging. close the ice cream stand and board it up, then I will gladly book again.

Oh that's rediculous! Don't offer it at all if they are going to charge? Tell you what, if you don't want to pay for it, don't! But don't demand that Princess deprive others of having the choice to pay for the ice cream if they so desire.

Princess is about Choice. You can buy ice cream or you have a choice not to.
The Prices of cruises these days require the cruiselines to make up for the low prices they are getting for cabins. I have been on 7 Princess cruises and have seen lines of people waiting for the Ice Cream. They were glad to pay for it. As long as there is a need for this they will charge. Plus with prices so low they will not stop charging. I will continue to support Princess as they give great value for my dollar. You have a choice not to support them. Thats ok.

Michael
PS I have never bought the ice cream on Princess...and I never will.

Let's be honest. The vast mjority of those loading up dishes of free ice cream are the kids. Three bites later, the bowl is stashed somewhere, melting leaving a mess for the staff to clean up.

If you have to pay a little extra, the problem has been solved.

There is NO CHARGE for the ice cream in the dining room or in the Horizon Court in the afternoon - the only place where they charge for ice cream is at the Haagen-Daas stand! Been on Princess three times with number four coming up later this year.
