When I left the front desk there was a method to my madness. I loved that job. But, in order for me to be marketable as more in this business I had to learn the back end of the business too. There was an opening at a smaller mortuary right here in Town about 5 weeks ago. It is a very small operation but I would be doing everything I did before on the lobby desk and much more, as well as the admin work which I do now. But on a much smaller more personal scale. It is a one girl office and I would report to a funeral director/manager. Well, the Director at that location was a former director at my location and she really fought to get me over there in fact she recruited me. But the Regional Manager refused to meet my salary demands.

Today I was called into the office. I was asked if I knew that the Director running that location was coming back to my location. I said yes I knew . I was then told by the GM that he had been told by the Regional Manager that I had an interest in the position but that he had refused my salary demands. There are no secrets they know I am trying to advance. So he said Judy, The Regional Manager has asked whether you have an interest in moving over to that location. I asked about salary and was told they would meet my demands. So now I'm very curious, what about the new person that was hired I asked? I was told she wasn't groomed for that position, that the person in that role needs to be fully trained and furthermore needs to be comfortable working with decedents and that she is not. Furthermore, I was told that a strong background in customer care is required and that my name has been mentioned by several of the applicants who will assume the role of funeral director/manager at that location. He said that if I choose to take the position that the newly hired admin would be moved to my location. All of this will happen very quickly I am told in the next 2 weeks.

OK kool so I ask if a new director/manager has been chosen and I was told no, but he/she would be in the coming week. I am very close to a director who applied for the job and she told me a week ago she would demand me as her assistant and wanted to train me to be a director.

So now I am told that I must interview with the Regional Manager this week if I am interested. I called and scheduled an interview quite surprised that he would be interviewing for an admin. I believe he has upgraded the position to Office Manager.

So now I get on the phone tonight and speak to my friend. She is ecstatic because she has applied for the job and wants me. I asked her why I would have to interview with the big guys. She said because Judy more than likely you will be standing services and being groomed to eventually be able to direct, was her belief. Many directors have come out of the smaller locations.

I have lots of questions still, I won't get answers until I interview so I guess I'll find out Friday.

Oh Judy I hope it all works out to your benefit. You have worked very hard to get this far. Good luck.
