I have a question...

Island Jim posted on the aft deck that he was back from his cruise, and had a link to an album with photos of same..
it was moved to the Q&A board.

Now Gitte posted that she is back from the solstice on the aft deck, and it stayed up. I have been off the board since yesterday, and this post was up for 16 hours. So I thought it was OK to be there, as it was not talking about any cruiseing or travel stuff, just saying to friends that she was back..

So what IS the ruling on this? how fine do we split hairs?

I will be honest with you... I have not read Island Jims yet, as I have been making stained glass for the group cruise all day, so I can only go by Gitti's.
she does not post a review, she does not offer travel advice, she just says she is back and shows a couple of pictures.
Yet I am getting inquiries asking why one is moved and the other not?
I have moved Gitte's post to stop the questions for now..

OK.. I have read Island Jim's, and I agree.. he mentioned Labadee etc. and herb posted to it and gave his opinion of labadee also :lol
this makes it a cruise Q&A thing in my opinion..

But now how about Gitte's?
is it OK on the aft deck as long as the poster does not get specific?
if so.. I will move her back :lol
and explain to Herb.. yep.. herb was one of the people I heard from about gitte's post. :lol
that talking about a specific port or experience makes it a post for the Q&A board.. saying "I am home" does not.

Now I'm really curious...

Why was Island Jim's "Back from Solstice" moved to Cruise Q&A (where it belongs ) yet. Gittes exact same thread "Back from Solstice" was "allowed" to stay on Aft Deck.

Herb, I have moved it at least until all the moderators review this.

But I went and read Island Jim's post, and I think the reason he was moved was because he mentioned a specific port and problem..
This encouraged responses about Labadee..
I feel this made it a post for Q&A.

Gitte, only said she had a good cruise and posted a couple of pictures. no mention of any ship problems or ports problems.
Perhaps this was why it was still on the aft deck?

But I have asked everyone to weigh in on this so we are all on the same book.

Let me add this fuel to the fire..... What is the difference between a SDM, DDM type post and a generic type "I'm back".


I think bOB moved Jims post since it did contain cruise related info where as Gittes is along the same line as the SDM, DDM????????

I was PM'ing Island JIM about the Solstice (not about his post) and noticed both threads and thought hmmm. Then I went to his link to his photo's and found it gone. He told me he removed it because of the move to Q&A......for a reason he perceived as a "Privacy " issue. Which in fact is/was not existent of course. But it was real to him he just wanted to be comfortable in the aft deck is all I think.

Trust Herb to ask !!

It's kinda like splitting hairs but I personally think that If it's cruise related then we should err on the cruise side. We need more interest in Q & A in my opinion.
It's like I see a Q on say an Alaska specific. I'd like it to be in the AK forum but I know it stands a better chance in Q&A and Aft actually too for that matter.

Could we have it in both ??

I don't know about anybody else but I just missed Gette's post, but one of these times I am going to leave one in the wrong place just to piss Herb off. He fails to want to realize that we are not all perfect and from time to time something slips by, it might be the end of the world to him but I fail to see the need to get glassy eyed over it.

Comment posts concerning pre and or post cruise as someone is leaving or returning belong on the Cruise Q&A, so as a simple rule, even it it is questionable in nature, if cruising is the topic and is mentioned in the post, put it on Q@A, we can sort the bodies after the dust clears

As suer said, you can really get into it. As I said in the first post, how fine do we want to split hairs?

My personal thought is that if someone says they are a SDM DDM, leafing for a cruise. saying "hi" from a ship.. saying they are back from a cruise..
as long as there is NO mention of the cruise experience, good or bad, no mention of any port or port experience.. then we should treat it as sharing generatic news with "friends" and something that has no real interest for anyone hanging out on the Q&A board.

But (as in Island Jim's case.. and Cruise cuties..) if any experience etc. is mentioned that WOULD be of interest to people on the Q&A board, then it gets moved.

BUT that is just my thoughts.

I am quite happy to do this any way that John says. I just want to make sure we are all doing the same thing :lol

as it is a description of the cruise.. as per the stuff we are discussing above.

Though it seems like we are splitting hairs, the key is to define the hair. if we go back to the original concept behind where posts belong, non cruise or travel related goes to the aft deck, if it is cruise or travel related it goes to q&a.
my feeling is that SDM DDM hi i am back, hi from the ship.. heard from someone on the ship and it is great etc. etc. are dealing with a cruise, thus the hair is cruise related because it focuses on a cruise in some nature. herbs recent post about his daughter being a cruise addict, kinda gray hair but really isnt focusing on a cruise more just the individual, could remain in either place where it was posted, really a gut call by whoever comes across it. since these issues involve human nature, it is impossible to be perfect every time, so lets treat it like we are playing horseshoes or hand grenades.
