Vancouver . It's a fairly large City and still pretty safe in the day light. HOHO buses easy. In August there are usually great world class beaches that can be easily accessed by cab and city buses if you are used to that type of getting around. Stanley park has a great aquarium. Granville island has a great market and food. Google. I never have used any tours so depending on your specific needs ??Icy Point. Is a great spot to stretch your legs and just walk the area, Great restored cannery right there at your dock. Walk to the bottom of the Zip slide usually a fire going to gather at. The Town of Hoonah is exactly that a fishing town. It's a great spot for a Whale Tour. The Ships tour will be in a rather huge boat and crowded. I can't recommend it. This based on seeing it leave the dock only. There are whales around.. I've seen Orca's right at the dock area from our ships on several occasions. Locals will get you whales if they are around anywhere. The Zip line is amazing. FRom viewing at te bottom people are so small you can hardly see them until well on the way down.Juneau and Ketchikan I've been there frequently over the years and am a bit jaded (for several reasons) Both are great communities and the folks are friendly. But it becomes quite crowded with big ships in. Both are walkable off your ship if it docks "Downtown" Specifically Juneau may have you a bit away depending on the pecking order of the day. X usually is able to get you downtown but not always. (YOu can check the actual dock site on line) Towns have the same stuff as all Caribbean ports. Both places have city buses and are easy to use. There 's no place to go except where you started from so hard to get lost. I'm no tour expert but have used the buses to get around to local spots. I have had friends that always use local tour guides for whale watching. At the dock in Juneau is a lift to a Mountain top Several short blocks in Ketchikan will get you to a Logging show and Creek Street with some great little shops. Not sure but your date in August may get you a salmon run right there. So thats my general take. To explain where I'm coming from a bit. Jaded because most of the Jade for sale is either from BC right next door and further north from where you are in Ak. or really off shore completely from North American.Check out Ports on my buddy Mikes site. Specific might be a bit dated but his experiences are real.https://www.thepreismans.com/Any thing else I can help with let me know.
