How much weight do you gain?

What can I expect to gain on my 7nt cruise?:( And does the Ship Shape Spa have a scale in it so I can gauge myself =scales ? I've been on two cruises before and always said that I will loose weight before we go, and on the previous two cruises I was chubby and down right fat. Now I've lost 55 lbs and I want to watch it so I don't go totally crazy, it took alot of hard work & exercise to get where I am now . We have another 9 months before we go and I'd like to loose another 10 lbs. I'll try to make wise choices. I will actually use the ship shape spa instead of just walking through it, I'll use the stairs because I've heard that the waits at the elevator can be long , I'll do alot of walking around the promanade (one of my favorite things to do), I love the smell of the ocean, and I'll drink water. I prefer to eat my calories instead of drinking them.:cheers

What are some of the ideas you have to fight the battle while on a cruise?

You will probably find that the simple fact that you have lost so much weight has probably increased your metabolism making you less likely to gain large amounts of weight. Walking the stairs and making an effort to eat normal portions sizes will help. Try to work out at least a few times while onboard. Hubby and I did just fine, gaining no weight on our last cruise. We did all of the above.

Congratulations on the weight loss. On my last two cruises I was nervous about gaining weight, so I was glad that on one cruise I actually lost one pound and on the other I only gained 0.2 pounds.

I have the mindset that I am on vacation and I try not to deprive myself of foods that I enjoy, but I also try not to over due it. A few good tips:

- Use the stairs
- Use the gym facilities
- At the lunch buffet stay away from the items with cream sauces (we really liked the turkey and ham wraps they made to order for you)
- At the lunch buffet - only one dessert
- Always have fruit and/or salad with lunch and dinner
- At port - book youself on excursions that require you to exert youself (hiking, snorkeling, etc.)

I do enjoy the fruity alchololic beverages, so I try to limit myself to 1 or 2 by the pool each day and one in the evening, then I switch to ice water.

I did the 1 mile walk on deck most mornings (5 laps = 1 mile on Voyager class ships). We also did many of the activities that earned ship shape dollars - shooting hoops, and whatever other activities the Fitness person dreams up - usually a fun way to meet other people too and burn some calories. Don't forget the ship shape menu in the dining room - usually some nice options and even on the rare occasion where there isn't a great mixed green salad on the menu, they can sometimes scrounge one up for you, if you like salads like I do.........ENJOY.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Our first cruise last year was a reward for having lost a lot of weight as well, and this year we worked hard to get even lower prior to the cruise.

We eat very little salt at home, so we tend to gain lots of water weight on the cruise as a result of the salty foods they serve onboard. (You can request salt-free entrees at dinner before you board, but I'd rather take the temporary water weight gain and enjoy the flavor. An RCI rep warned me off the salt-free idea; he said these are not low-salt versions of the same food that everyone else gets, but something else altogether-- and apparently horrible. They offer it for those who are put at serious health risk by consuming salt.) The good news is that low-salt foods and lots of water once we get home sheds that water weight right away.

The tips above are great. Here are a few more:

o Make it part of your cruise routine to exercise every day. It will make you feel great, and it starts the day in the right direction. We find that we're less likely to make unhealthy food choices after working out.
o We used the stairs constantly. Even when we were going from Deck 1 (returning to the ship after visiting a port) to Deck 11 (for lunch). Let me tell ya, that's a hike, but doing stuff like that every day, all day, makes a real difference. Just take your time and rest if you need to. But you'll feel great once you get up there.
o Eat smaller amounts more often throughout the day. Your body will burn the fuel more efficiently (remember that any "excess" food is stored as fat, so big meals lead to problems) and you'll never get ravenously hungry.
o While the food at the buffet is delicious, it's also bottomless, which ain't always a good thing. We started ordering breakfast and even lunch from room service to control portions and to avoid the crowds. It helped.
o Always eat a salad and down a glass of icewater first before you dig into lunch or dinner. It will fill you up and you'll have less room for the rest of it.
o Don't force yourself to eat all four courses at dinner. Order an entree and dessert...or maybe a salad, appetizer and dessert. Just don't forget the dessert...you are on vacation after all!

I can't claim that we didn't gain any weight on our two cruises. We did. But it came off in a couple of weeks, and to us, the extra effort was worth it.

Congrats again on losing all that weight. If you've had a chance to see that new documentary "Supersize Me," you'll know what an important accomplishment that is.

Congrats on the weight loss! WTG!

I do watch what I eat and do exercise but not as much as I do at home. Taking the stairs helps too.

We don't gain more then a pound or 2 if any at all. I save the calories for the best things.

Apparently some do gain weight on cruises, but I never have. And believe me, my motabolism is terrible! I dont use the fitness equipment on the ship, Im on vacation for heavens sake! However, we do A LOT while in port. We usually choose tours that involve walking and/or swimming. Plus theres always shopping to do before returning to the ship. So we do get plenty of exercise. Even on the sea days, we spend a great deal of it walking around the ship (and yes, you tend to take the stairs when waiting for the elevator takes longer than to just walk a flight or two). Dont worry too much about it, you will do just fine! Enjoy and congrats!

I've lost 42 lbs - thank you, South Beach diet! We were on the Explorer last month and I, too was concerned about weight gain. I told our Assistant Waiter not to offer me bread unless I specifically asked for it. (which I did on two occasions). I ate dessert every single night. I drank moderately and had snacks almost every day. I did not excercise other than taking stairs when I felt like it, and walking around the ship to "people watch."

End of story - I gained 3 lbs, which I quickly dropped the next week by returning to the diet. I've since lost another 3 lbs.

Moral of story - have fun, don't go crazy, eat the foodm, you paid for it. Contrary to popular belief, cruising is NOT hazardous to your health!

I went on a seven nights cruise last year and gained eight pounds. I am going on another cruise in four more day CAN' WAIT!!!!

I will be boarding this coming Sunday for W. Caribbean . I have to control myself by not eating any dessert and eat only two small meals per day.

I also planning on doing a lot of exercising on a ship to burn more calories.
