We did the excursion a couple years ago and it was fun!

Here are the horses......

About the ride......

They serve you free drinks before and after at the cantina. There is a short demonstration after your ride also. You are allowed to run your horse a couple times and it is not nose to tail stuff like trail rides here in the U.S.

As for the 220 pound limit........

I/we ride a lot................

......and I am 6'4" and on the far side of 250 and it was/is no problem for me.

Although the horses in Mexico are a little smaller than those here, they do have some that are fine with heavier riders.

The 220 pound limit is more of a height/weight proportions guideline.

That "limit" should be adjusted down and up according to height/weight proportions.  For those 6 feet in height or taller, there should be no problem up to 250 pounds or so.

A heathy horse can easily handle a rider 1/4 of it's weight and most are 1000 pounds plus.

Riding is a physical activity and isn't only about weight. A heavy person who is athletic is easier for a horse to carry then a lighter person who flops around and does not work with the horse.

So, to answer your question, you will have no problem.

6'2" and 230 pounds is nothing to worry about.

We did horseback riding in Cozumel and San Juan this year and as I said I am a couple inches taller and 35 pounds heavier.

NOTE........take bug spray! If you can stand it wear long clothes also.

Bugs bite a lot!
