Horseback Riding in Cozumel HELP

On the shore excursion for Cozumel: Mayan Frontier by Horseback, it says that the weight limit is 220 pounds. How crucial is this guideline? My parents have done this excursion and said it was really nice but they don't know about the weight limit deal. I'm asking for my husband who would love to go horseback riding but hes 6'2 and a muscular dude, so hes just over the 220. Will they refuse him to go even if we paid for the excursion? I just don't want to lose out on the money I paid and have the whole day ruined. Thanks for any help.

Are there any phone numbers i can call to find out about this for sure if no one here knows.

Well--lets think about it from anouther stand point-- do you think the place may have a horse that will hold OVER 220 pounds. Thats the reason the weight limit.

Well lets think about it from this stand point - carnival and other cruiselines serve thousands of people a year, so im sure this place has seen its share of vistors,so i was just asking.
Now does anyone have any information that CAN help me?

Im sorry that you took my post out of context. It was only meant to help you.
If the weight limit is stated on the web page-- that is what is is. Carnival will not sway one way or another. It sets themselves up for a lawsuit.

And these cruise sites--only host maybe 1% of cruisers.

We did the excursion a couple years ago and it was fun!

Here are the horses......

About the ride......

They serve you free drinks before and after at the cantina. There is a short demonstration after your ride also. You are allowed to run your horse a couple times and it is not nose to tail stuff like trail rides here in the U.S.

As for the 220 pound limit........

I/we ride a lot................

......and I am 6'4" and on the far side of 250 and it was/is no problem for me.
Although the horses in Mexico are a little smaller than those here, they do have some that are fine with heavier riders.

The 220 pound limit is more of a height/weight proportions guideline.

That "limit" should be adjusted down and up according to height/weight proportions. For those 6 feet in height or taller, there should be no problem up to 250 pounds or so.

A heathy horse can easily handle a rider 1/4 of it's weight and most are 1000 pounds plus.
Riding is a physical activity and isn't only about weight. A heavy person who is athletic is easier for a horse to carry then a lighter person who flops around and does not work with the horse.

So, to answer your question, you will have no problem.
6'2" and 230 pounds is nothing to worry about.

We did horseback riding in Cozumel and San Juan this year and as I said I am a couple inches taller and 35 pounds heavier.

NOTE........take bug spray! If you can stand it wear long clothes also.
Bugs bite a lot!

Thank you so very much for your help! I feel ALOT better about booking that excursion. I was worried that they might take our money because he was over the weight "guideline". Thanks for the tips too. I would hate for the ride to be horrible because of the bugs.

Thanks again!

Don't worry, you'll have a great time.
They do not check weights nor do they enforce any limit.
(trust me, as I said I am the other side of 250 pounds)

I've ridden & handled just a few 4 legged animals in my days.

We saw most all of their horses and there was not one that would not carry 250 pounds easily.

If you ever get the chance to do the horseback excursion in San Juan you'll find some of the best trained horses I have ever seen!

Karin~

The one we are talking about is the one from the cruise. Although the one at www.cozumelinsider.com is one that I think you can book on your own.

Have you had much trouble booking on your own? My mom has done it twice when I went with her and it worked out ok. I was just wondering how much you could save.

Also if you have booked your own in honduras or cozumel, could you let me know about them? Thanks
