We are booked to go on Pride of America in January for a 7 day cruise?
Anyone been on this ship lately?
Is there a luau on the ship or should we book one on one of the islands?
I'm sure they are a bit touristy, but hey, we are tourists and this is our first trip to Hawaii and I know my mom and dad want to take us all to a luau.
Advice please!

We are back and had an AWESOME cruise! Our luau was fabulous. It was outside, under the stars. Great food, great entertainment. The people that worked there were so friendly and warm. The entire experience outstanding. We were away for the crowded luau and had the best seats in the house. I will posts some pics soon! Mahalo!

I have been to Hawaii many times over 30 years. Last trip was during Xmas and it will be my last. Perhaps from a cruise ship perspective it looks great because you never see the real Hawaii. When we first went there some 30 years violent and vice crime was non existent. Today all the islands are over run drugs and gangs. It is only in the tourist areas they try to keep cleaned up. You can no longer rent a car and just go site seeing. One wrong turn and you are in deep trouble.

I'm so delighted for you that you had a wonderful cruise...and attended a great luau.

This June, it will be 61 years that I've been visiting the Hawai'ian Islands - by ship and by land. While I've seen great changes through the years, I still eagerly return in a heartbeat each time.

Pride of America normally docks at Pier 2 in Honolulu.

What are you looking for in a hotel and what's your budget? Hotels near the airport will be cheaper, those in the Waikiki area in Honolulu will be more expensive. Are you looking to be in the center of activity, or are you simply looking for a place to chill out after your flight the night before you sail?

Does anyone remember the names of the tour companies Pride of America used for their tours? I am specifically interested in helicopter tours, snorkeling and luaus.

We are sailing May 2014 .. yes, you read right. Wanted to do it up right for my 50th birthday.. and cross something off of the bucket list. My brother took this same ship/cruise in Sept 2011 and loved it. After hearing how cramped the regular staterooms are ... we've booked a family suite/penthouse. I can't wait !:sunny:
