Have you ever taken a river cruise? Your thoughts?

We have not, but not because we don't want to do it. Most of the river cruise companies do not accommodate scooters, and we can't do much walking, so why spend all that money when we can only look at those fantastic places instead of experiencing them?

Yes I did. Many years ago
My friend & I boarded the Delta Queen here in St Paul & it went down to Lacrosse WI & turned around & came back.
Short but sweet.

I would love to but it sounds like there is too many limitations. Plus they are pricey.

You know that a river cruise is on my bucket list. I don't think I would miss the entertainment of the large ships. Back to the boat after a day of exploring I would likely be tired and would be happy just to listen to some quiet music, sip a cocktail and visit with other guests. I love the idea of a small passenger list and a hight ratio of staff to passengers making for a very high level of personal service. I love that river cruises are (or very nearly) all inclusive....meals, beverages tips and tours and transfers are all included on the lines that I have been exploring. I think that the dining experience sounds like a winner. I have heard that some people think the dinner takes too long (1 1/2 - 2 hours) but honestly this appeals to me....and where are you going to hurry to anyway? Above all I love the idea that I am going to visit places that I could never reach on a traditional cruise. One day I am going to give it a try and I'll let you know what I think when I get back!

....just one other small note. I have several friends who have done both traditional and river cruises. The all preferred the river cruising experience.

We will be going on our second Viking River Cruise this November. Your correct that it is very active with allot of walking. The age group is older than traditional cruising but, you need to be able to walk good distances with hills and steps.

We saw some guests stay aboard the Viking Longship. It was sad to see someone limited like this. We also saw some people struggle.

I joked i lost weight on my river cruise because the food was actually fairly healthy (no heavy sauces) with proper portions. My Samsung phone has a health monitor app that runs in the background. On our trip it started going crazy awarding gold coins daily for me for breaking my record for all the walking we were doing. The days were full and we slept well.

I would definitely recommend a Viking RIver Cruise. Please take a look at our Facebook Album from our Rhine Getaway: Click Here
