Have you ever dreamed of being a traveler and not a tourist?

Have you ever dreamed of being a traveler who traverses the world? Have you ever wanted to work aboard a ship and be at sea full time, visiting foreign ports? Have you wanted to live a nomadic lifestyle going from place to place... and reaching beyond a tourist experience?

Many travel journalists and travel blogger's do just this. I was interested if the Cruise Addicts here felt this pull, even for a moment.. even for a short dream?

Personally, I have wondered what it would be like to work on a cruise ship... or even a merchant ship. I'm intrigued more and more with being at sea and travel in itself. Life seems to go so fast with so many shackles onto us that it's no wonder we think about escaping to foreign lands even for a week at a time.

How about you?

In a word, "No!" In explanation...I am in love with my own life. I like to be at home with my family and friends...and of course the little furry boy that lives happily with us. I love our mountains, rivers and lakes. I like the 4 seasons that I experience here (though sometimes the winter drags on a bit too long!) This morning autumn is making my neighbourhood glow. It is gold and red and rust and bright blue! I live in a safe (safe being a relative term) small city and I live in a country that values peace, equality and respect for cultural differences. We have fine education, and health care system that no one would see dismantled. My desire for travel is to leave, for a short time, all of those things that I am likely to stress about behind for a week or two ...or... to escape the howling winter winds and snow for a brief time. This is our Thanksgiving weekend and I will call this my "I'm thankful" post. I can think of nowhere else that I would choose to spend my life than right here in my small city, in Beautiful British Columbia, in Canada!

Well said Beryl. And I agree with you on all points. I like to visit other parts but always like to return home.

No way would I want to work on a ship -- all those long hours -- teeny, weeny cabin -- and no one thanks you for a job well done.

We have been fortunate to have seen so many wonderful places via land and cruises. Don't mind being away from home for a month or a little more.

I have even gotten to the point that I prefer to be home for the holidays, especially Christmas, even though we don't have any family.

Several years ago, was on a cruise, when I spoke out loud to somebody, I want a job on a cruise ship, one of the crew was walkin by and heard me, and he said, "No you don't, all you do is move from ship to ship and work."
