I always keep batteries and lamp oil - lots more than I think I'll ever need.  My hoarding compulsion paid off during the ice storm when we had no powerfor 8 days, and Leon even had enough batteries to watch DVDs on his portable player.  I have at least one flashlight in every room, and now a generator to run the fridge and freezer.  You're being very smart, believe me.
