Happy Paczki Day

Good Morning...

Why am I up so early? Because today is "Fat Tuesday", or Paczki Day (pronounced POONCH-key) as some of call it...

I have my Polish ancestry to thank for this wonderful calorie/carb filled "Holy Day"

In Hamtramck, where we have lots of Polish bakeries, folks are lined up all night long buying their Paczki's. Doesn't matter if you are Polish or not, they sell thousands of them.

It's like a donut, but much more rich and fatter (the dough is made with lots of egg yolks). Imagine a big round donut filled with your choice of Strawberry, Lemon, Custard, Raspberry, etc.

All of the local bakeries here in the suburbs sell them too, and the lines have already started.

So have a good, Fat Tuesday, and I hope you can enjoy a nice big fat Paczki today! P)

We have a great bakery here in Amherst, OH that makes great Paczki.

Paczki (polish donuts) Kiedrowski’s Bakery in Amherst makes them every year before Lent. They are very sweet and melt in your mouth. Fillings include Lekvar (prune butter), poppyseed, and apricot. They are simply delicious. And that is the way the bakery advertises them every year.

...I'd take one of each..and my Dear husband Mark.. TWO of each.

he never even knew of them before me..and now he loves BOTH those and Hot Cross Buns..Thanks to his Dear Italian wife with a ton of Polish friends!!. one thing about us this time of year for Lent..we got food!!..:chef....and taking him to Conneticut home this time of year..=eek.. he about fell into Pastry Heaven!!..:grin....

OMG.. Reggae I am drooling just seeing those..

Darn, it's the smell that's getting to me. The box is sitting there on the counter, and each time I walk by, I get a whiff of those Paczki's!

Okay, I took the dog for a walk, now I'm going to take him again.....waiting for DH to get home and he can finish these things

Well as we entered work on this Fat Tuesday, one of the Admins handed out Mardi Gras beads! We couldn't wear them while around families but it was fun to see everyone with bright colorded beads on this morning after fighting their way into work in the terrible snow this morning.
