I would appreciate recommendations for excursions in Grand Cayman? I do not think I would like the Stingray even though I have heard everyone really enjoys it. Not sure why? Just doesn't appeal to me. I did the dolphin swim last October and that was fun watching my girls. I really can't say I loved it. I am glad I did it ( A once in a life time thing) but I have no desire to do it again. So... I am thinking I probably would not like the stingrays.

What I really wanted was horseback riding. But when I emailed the company they said they could not accomodate our group.

So I am at a loss what to do........ Up for any recommendations the board might make.

Thanks
Linda

Well if you like snorkling,,,, the snorkling in Grand Cayman is fantastic!! Probably any of the Snorkle tours would be amazing. I can't remember for sure which tour we did, but it was great.. and can imagine that all of the snorkling be that wonderful. There's also a butterfly farm that you can do,, kinda sounds cool I guess. And I think that is somewhat new,,, as thats what it says on Carnival's website. After the butterfly farm they take you to a beach, where you will have a complimentary non-alcoholic drink! Have you been to the Shore Excursions page on Carnival's website?? It gives you lots of great detailed information on each shore excursion. Here's the link to the Butterfly farm excursion :

and here is the link to the shore excursions,, all you do is just select which destination you're visiting (ex. Western Caribbean, or Eastern Caribbean) then select your port of call (ex. Grand Cayman, or Cozumel) Hope this helps somewhat! Good luck! and I'm sure whichever you choose you will have a fantastic time visiting Grand Cayman Island. Grand Cayman is one of my favorite places to visit.

We actually did one that went to swim with the stingrays, visited a turtle farm, stopped in a town called Hell and visited a rum place(yum) to sample rum cake. I am deathly afraid of creatures but I had fun swimming (without the stingrays) in the clear water where they take you. It is beautiful. Them my husband could enjoy those icky creatures while I floated around! It was a great way to see alot of what the island offers.

we highly recommend Capt. Marvins . we have been two times and both were excellent. his office is a short walk from where the tenders drop you off. great staff and great snorkeling. highly recommended!!!

Dune buggy adventures are great and can accomadate 4. What a blast. Look at shoretrips.com

Captain Marvins tours are fantastic. We went in Feb 05. We did the swim with the sting rays and then they took us to snorkel. There are tours for just snorkeling. Much cheaper that the cruise ships and also they don't take as many people as the cruise ship tours do. Lots of indivudual attention. The tour we went on can take about 40 people but there were only 8 of us! His web site explains everything.

Sumarine tours...I think the company is called atlantis.

Buy rum cakes. tour the turtle farm. Visit San Pedros Place.

If you google grand Cayman there will be lots of suggestions.

Atlantis was cool. Its a semi Submersible so it doesnt really go "under the water". but 90% of the boat is underwater and you sit down in the bottom as they drive around.. Its pretty cool..

I was on a Carnival cruise last August and I was with a party of 9 others, and we secided to check out Capt. Marvins based on reviews from this board. I have to tell you that on all the cruises that I have been on and all the other shore excursions that I have did on various other ports of call, this would have to be the most organized excursion that I have done. A staff member from Capt. Marvins meets you on the pier and it is a short walk or van ride to the store where a bus picks you up to go to the boat for the tour. If swimming with the stingrays is not your "cup of tea" (although highly reccomended) I would suggest the land tour that you can book through Carnival's Shore Excursion Desk onboard. I don't remember how much it was but I have done it in the past and it is awesome. You visit a rum factory , the turtle farm, and the town of Hell ("I've been to Hell and back...") with various stops along the way... No matter what you do I am sure you will enjoy all there is to do in Grand Cayman.

If you are looking for something besides stingray city like we were, we've been there 3 times now and want to do something different.

We are booking a new tour: Cayman Jeep Safari Tour to Rum Point It will be a nice way to see more of the Island and then spend some time at Rum Point, which from what I've read is one of the nicest beaches on the island and not crammed full since its a ways from the port area. We will also stop at athe Rum cake factory for samples:-)
