Northeast
Some remnant moisture from Fay will keep scattered showers over the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England today.
A few heavy downpours may develop over parts of southern and eastern Virginia.
Northern New England, including New York City and Boston, will experience partly cloudy and dry conditions today, as high pressure holds on there.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase from the west later this afternoon, as a cold front approaches. This will impact areas from Pittsburgh to Buffalo.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move into the rest of the Northeastern States, including the bigger East Coast cities, tonight into Saturday.
Dry weather and warm temperatures will return Sunday and continue into Labor Day.
Midwest
Showers and thunderstorms will move across parts of the MIDWEST AND Ohio Valley today, as a cold front moves east across the region.
Locally heavy downpours will be the primary risk, but an isolated severe thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
In the wake of this front, dry conditions will be felt across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, along with warming temperatures.
High pressure will then settle over all Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes for the weekend, resulting in mostly sunny and dry conditions, along with warmer temperatures.
A new cold front will enter the northern Plains on Monday, with the next chance for thunderstorms.
South
Lingering moisture from the remnants of Fay will continue the chance for a few thunderstorms over North Carolina today.
Isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms will also develop along the Southeast Coast and most of Florida and its coasts, as abundant tropical moisture remain in place.
Scattered thunderstorms will also impact southern Texas, where an upper-level disturbance and an increased flow of moisture will be in place. Locally heavy downpours will be possible here.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms can also be expected from the southern Plains to the Tennessee Valley today, as cold front approaches from the north. An isolated severe thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
This cold front will weaken as it sinks south on Saturday and Sunday, bringing only isolated thunderstorms across the South.
Residents along the Gulf Coast will also want to monitor the lasted forecasts regarding Gustav, as it could be threatening some parts of the coastal areas by Labor Day.
Currently rain and wind is in the forecast for Monday, along parts of the coastal areas of the Lower Mississippi River Valley.
You can visit the Hurricane Season Page for the latest information on Gustav.
West
A Pacific cold front will trigger showers over western Washington today.
Meanwhile, a lingering upper-level disturbance will continue bring isolated to scattered thunderstorms in parts of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
Locally heavy downpours and gusty winds can be expected with a few of the storms.
Highs will range from the warm 80s across the lower elevations of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico to the broiling 110s in the Desert Southwest and well over 100 in the Central Valley of California.
On Saturday, the cold front will continue to move into the Northwest.
Ahead of the front highs will peak in the 90s in eastern Montana, but behind the front afternoon temperatures will only be in the 50s, 60s and 70s across Washington.
Highs will range from the 40s and 50s in Montana and Wyoming in the wake of the cold front to the 90s in the Desert Southwest.
