Float for snorkeling...

I've read all the information regarding rent vs. bring your own equipment - we decided to bring our own. Anyway - will we need floats? We plan on snorkeling on our own instead of a group thing. Can you just rent the floats?

Our family's first cruise - Soverign 8/3. We're excited.

Thanks.

If you are asking about Coco Cay, yes you can rent floats there. Last time I was there (about a year and a half ago) it was $8 (I think) to rent the floater for the day .

On most tours they will provide you with a vest that you will be required to wear. The private islands also will have the same requirement. It's an insurance clause they have to fufill. When out on your own at other locations you can either rent from the ship, or a shore vendor or go without (my preference). You will be naturally boyant in salt water and if you want to dive down and get a closer look at something it will be very difficult if there is air in the vest. Have fun. :)

The excursions we have been on didn't require you to wear the vests, but had them if you wanted them. Salt water is very bouyant and you usually don't have a problem if your a good swimmer. You can buy them fro $35 - $40.

Can someone tell me what a decent brand for snorkel equip is ? I have no idea what I am looking at! We would like to try snorkeling next cruise and I would prefer our own equip.

Thanks guys for the info. Very helpful. We bought our snorkel equip at Sams Club. Body Glove brand. About $49 adult set, $30 for youth. Comes with mask, snorkel, fins & carrying bag. Seems like a decent set & fits good, but I'm a first timer.
