EXPLORER of the Seas - a few questions

Hi All

Hubby and I are getting ready to sail on the Explorer and I have a few questions for those of you who have recently sailed on this ship.

1. What adults-only areas are there on the ship? (the ones I am aware of are the Solarium and Casino...any others?)
2. What is the flat fee to eat at Johnny Rockets? (the last I checked it was $4.95, extra for beverages, free breakfast...has this changed?)
3. Is there a charge to do any of these activities: in-line skating, ice skating, rock wall climbing, mini golf, thalassotherapy pool? If so, can you tell me what the charges are?
4. Aside from Portofino (which we know is supposed to be awesome!), what/where is the best food on the ship? Anything you've had that is extra good?
5. I plan to wear a full-length gown on formal night. Will I look out of place?

If you have any other tips to share, I would love it. Thanks so much and I will be sure to post a cruise review when we return.

I have not sailed Explorer but sister ships Navigator and Voyager a few times.

  1. If I'm not wrong the disco is adult only during evenings otherwise I'm not sure there are any more adult only areas, except those you mentioned of course.
  2. I think it's still $4,95 for Johnny Rockets.
  3. I'm pretty sure there is no charge for in-line scating, ice skating, rock climbing or mini golf (at least as far as I can remember). Don't know about the thalassotherapy pool though.
  4. If you like burgers there is of course Johnny Rockets. The apple pie I had there for dessert on Voyager a couple of years ago was really yummy. The Cafe Promenade use to have nice sandwiches and pastries. Portofino, as you mentioned, is a really nice restaurant with great food.
  5. I think you'll be fine wearing a full-length gown, but hopefully some of this boards ladies can step in for advice here...

If you like parades, watch out for them in the cruise compass. There usually are a few on the Royal Promenade during the cruise.
A visit to the helipad in the bow of the ship can be nice for sail away.

For anyone reading this now, the price at Johnny Rocket's went up to $5.95.

I'm pretty sure there is a fee for the thalassotherapy pool, but sorry don't know how much.

And the gown will be perfect.
