EOS aft balcony 9690 vs. 9692

I realize I keep posting a lot of questions, but hey, why stop now? Anyway...we have to choose between balcony 9690 and 9692 on the aft of the EOS. Has anyone had these rooms on any of the Voyager class ships? Are the balconies about the same size? Do you get lounge type chairs on either of these (vs. those white "just to sit" chairs). Also, I have heard that 9690 has a porthole window and a regular door not a sliding door. Is the cabin darker because of this?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I have cabin 9390 on the other side of the ship so I will be really interested in seeing the replies to your question.

I hope it works out for both of us.

The "porthole" window is just the shape of the window, not the size. It's huge. You can sit in it if you wanted to and it does let in a lot of light as you will see from some photos that are in the link below.

That is a link to Bonnie's aft cabin photo album on Webshots. She has a lot of different shots of the various aft cabins on Voyager Class Ships.

Hope it helps. I have never stayed in either of those aft cabins. I've been in 1688 which would have been right above you and 7688 below you with the circle cutout on the side of the ship.

Ask all the questions that you want. Half the fun of cruising is the anticipation. :lol

OK now I have seen the photographs I am a little worried. When I sailed on Radiance all aft cabins had sliding glass doors, which I felt I needed as I suffer bad claustrophobia resulting in panic attacks. Do any of the aft cabins have sliding doors on EOS as I may need to get back to my not so knoweldgable TA and get this sorted out. If anyone out there has sailed in cabin 9390 please can you let me know whether the cabin feels cramped because of the lack of glass.

Help very much appreciated on this.

The only cabins on the aft that have no sliding door are 8390, 8690, 9390 & 9690 all the other cabins have sliding doors. If you are not going to be comfortable in that cabin have your TA try for a Cat. D1 on the aft. That configuration is like that on all the Voyager Class ships.

Thank you everyone for help with this one. Bonnie's aft photo album was a real help.
I think I would like to go back to my TA now to change me cabin. Before I do this, anyone happen to know if 9692 or 9393 has the lie down type of loungers on the balcony, on all of the photo shots it is hard to tell and only two normal beach chairs are visible.

Your help with this has been very much appreciated.

From the looks of the picture they will fit out there. If there aren't any on the balcony when you check in, just ask your cabin steward to have someone bring them down for you. They would be more than happy to do it.

Thank you for the imput. After viewing the photos on Bonnie's site and also the photos on another community webshots site ("marine cruiser " who had cabin 9690 or 9630 on the Navigator) we have decided on 9690. I think we'll be okay with the porthole window, the corner balcony appears to have a better view and may get more sunlight? Ali thanks for the suggestion with the lounge chairs, I wasn't aware that you could much such a request, I just figure that the balcony came as is (although the only other cruise we've been on we had a side balcony on the NCL Sun and there would've have been any room).

Oh, one more thing...I posted the above original question on another site...the only response I received was from a person who had an aft balcony and didn't like it . That person reason for not liking it was that when one looked down "for twenty feet out all you see is the metal of the ship" no water. Being on the corner, will we be able to look down and see water or will it be another balcony?

None of the balconies on the aft will allow you to look down and see water. You can look ahead, to the right and to the left but not down. You can only look down and see water on the sides of the ship or if you had cabin 7388 or 7688 as those corner cabins also have a huge circle cutout on the side of the ship so you actually get an aft view and a side view. My last sailing on the Adventure I had cabin 1688 which is right above the cabin you are booked in and when I looked down, the only thing I could see of your cabin was your balcony railing, that's it. Same held true for me. If I was standing at my rail, the people eating in the Windjammer above me could see me at my rail.

From the looks of the pictures from Mainecruiser, you balcony holds lounge chairs. I could see them in the one picture where it was taken from the cabin door. RCL lounge chairs are blue and white.

I will look through my photos and see if I have any that show me looking down and what the view was like. If I do have any, I'll email them to you.

Thanks Ali!
Hey, and another thank you for the airfare website you gave me in one of my previous posts. I was able to save a few dollars over expedia.com (plus their booking fee) and was able to get the same price my TA could get but without having to pay their "Air only" fee of $25/person! :) :)

Ali How much sun does 7688 get? My daughter wanted to sun out there but from what Bonnie said there was only afternoon sun. She'll be disappointed but I still have my aft balcony!!!!!!

Not much Rose and it all depends on the way the ship is facing. You really only get it from the circle. The back is mostly covered.

Jo,

I found the photos on the community webshots website. Below is the link. If for some reason it doesn't work, just try doing a search (yahoo, google, etc..I use aol) for Marinecruiser. Marinecruiser has a lot of photos of different trips posted on the web.
I hope this helps. :>

Then click on "Navigator of the Seas 1/11/2003" to see photos of 9690.

My husband and I are sailing the EOS in May. When do you go?

Hi Collie

Thanks for the web advice. My sister and I are sailing on the EOS Eastern route, but not until November. Hopefully you can pass on all your tips to me.

Having sailed Radiance from Canada to Hawaii, I have got a bit hooked, so depending on the price available my boyfriend and I may try to sail to Bermuda in September.

This site lives up to its name, I have now become and addict and check it every day.

Best wishes

Jo

I also check it everyday...my husband laughs at me for it. Oh, well, I just tell him I'm going to be much more informed than he by the time we go on our vacation and he's going to have to treat me very nicey if he wants me to share any of this helpful information! ;)

Just to let you know I decided to stay with my port hole corner cabin.

Thanks to you both for all the help you gave on this one 9390. My sister decided she loved the picture of the "round window" and said we have patio doors at home so but we don't have round windows.

Thank you Ali and Collie for all your help with this one. I am sure I will have lots more questions as I start the planning for real.
