That is really odd. I can't think of any reason that they'd want to do that though, unless the parts and mechanic were already in transit. At least the parts probably were, since they would probably take at least 2 days to get from Europe to Mexico and through customs, even with someone escorting the parts for a "fee". And (under my experience) there would be no guarantee if it would be 2 days or 3 or 4. No NAFTA free transport between Finland and Mexico...
I suppose they might also have been playing it safe and leaving room to get back if they had further problems. Still doesn't explain why they didn't go to Cozumel or some place like that...
