Do you still have a flower garden?

It is the weirdest thing. Mine did so poorly all summer but of course the hail storms here didn't help. It was looking so bare for a while that I just kept buying plants on clearance and putting them in. About 4 weeks ago mine suddenly took off and it now is growing like weeds. Twigs that used to be potted petunias that I stuck in the soil have taken off and grown into 19 inch wide patches of beautiful flowers. All the plants are growing into one another now because I put so many new plants in. I guess the summer is too hot here but once the temps dropped to the 80's this thing took off. I love it.

So have you already pulled your garden or is it still going strong?

Yes I still have flowers growing, but they are starting to look pretty sad! So as they croak I am pulling them out and getting things winterized. But the tomatoes that Alf planted are still doing great!

Once the temperatures drop I've noticed our flowers look much happier
We usually leave our annuals in until Halloween. Then out they come so we can start cleaning up after the leaves finally all fall off the trees which is usually by the second week in November (Here in NYC)

I just dug out a couple of wigelia (sp?) bushes in front of my house tonight. They had gotten WAY too big, and we have designs on a big landscaping make over in the spring. My geraniums are still doing well, and that's about it.

I'd love a nice solid hard freeze to make my allergies go away....to heck with the plants !

My roses are so sad. Wildflowers I planted in May are going crazy. And those purple things by my mail box (the ones I posted photos of a couple weeks ago) are taking over the neighborhood. Even my big clump of ornamental grass is pathetic looking. Oh well, there is always next year.

We had a couple really cold nights, and that stopped a lot of our plants instantly (like the hostas).

But...the cherry tomato plants are going nuts! We have so many of them. I started freezing some of them for soups, etc.

Everyone plants mums around here, this time of year.

When does it usually start snowing there where you live Judy? (I know, I hate asking that question)

The first frost is generally around October 18th in the area where I live. Earlier in the mountains. They have already had ground cover snow in the 8,000 plus elevations. Not feet but groundcover. The first snow here is generally on Halloween. It is the weirdest thing that it gets cold really fast around that time and snow. But it isn't unusual for us to have days in the 60's off and on throughout November and parts of December either. It's like a rollar coaster here in the early winter.

And in the Denver area I predict and vote for no snow this year! :grin

Cindy next year when Elliott is well and when you have more time and all of your energy regained you can plant a wonderful flower garden too! It calms me to work in my flower garden. My work is very stressful and I just need the quiet and solitude.

See what I mean? I didn't plant wild flowers but they are taking off like crazy. Hey maybe I'll get a hybred flower I can market. :lol

My garden is looking awful. Between the lack of rain and my being away, I think I am going to start pulling the stuff out this weekend

My roses are wonderful - I must learn how to post photos! My flox are pretty much done blooming. The black eyed susans are starting to bloom again. I gave up on the geraniums about a month ago and the mums I replaced them with are not looking good. I'm just glad the roses look great :daisy :lol
