Do you have HD TV's?

We have 3 TV's and don't have HD yet. And we don't have cable or other service so it will mean either we get new TV's or get the adapters. Audra has cable with HD and the other night we were on the phone while the Patriots were playing. She had a good 5 to 7 second delay on her TV and was getting mad because I would yell about the game and say what happened and then she would see it. :lol

I understand you can get a coupon toward the cost for up to two converters for your analog TV's from the govt. The coupons are good for 40.00 each. I figure we had better look into this before the big rush later in the year.

Mike said he heard the converters were over 100.00 but I just read they are about 50.00 in a news story. Anyone know? The coupons are until the money runs out and then maybe the govt will approve more funding. :grin

Do you have HD TV?

We have one HD set, and several old analog sets. Since we are on cable, we don't hasve to rush to change sets. There is a noticable difference in picture quality. I would not spend the money for a converter box. I would go for a digital set. Standard definition ones cost less than $200.00

We have an HD tv and the difference is amazing. At first, I didn't think I would really notice it, but boy do you get used to the clarity. I also read an aritcle that the converters cost about $50, but who knows with a government program! :) Good luck in sorting it out!

My DH is a videophile, so every single tv in our house is an HD TV except for the one in the kitchen, and as prices drop on HD TV's I suspect that will get replaced too. The difference IS amazing, especially with nature shows. IMHO, that's where they shine. We have DISH network, and they have a decent selection of HD channels.

We have Dish network too. Globug, if you haven't watched the Equator channel on HD you really need to. It is an HD channel They do a series called "An Eye On..." some country. They fly over countryside in either a helicopter or small plane and just film it. WOW!!!

be careful, the government is mandating DIGITAL tv, not necessarily hi-def;

Hi def is beautiful. And, JUdy, all programs on sattellite or cable is a few seconds behind airwave TV.

We know because we have both. you can get hi-def channels aready over the air; you just need and HD TV or HD ready TV with converter box and an antenna . Koolaid did that and we get lots of *free* HD channels over the air.

Mike and I don't watch alot of TV. And we even got rid of the Dish Network because we were not watching anything other than network most of the time. So it seemed like such a waste of money every month. The only thing I have missed is NASCAR during the middle of the season when it is on TNT. We may add cable at some time with some movie channels but to be honest it is something that we just don't use much. We are both on our computers doing other things most of the time when not working. And in the summer I'm working in my gardens and enjoying the outdoors.

We have one relatively new TV in the office which is over 20" and two other TV's both pretty large but over five years old each of them. They work just fine and I'm cheap, I hate replacing things until they break! So we ordered a couple of coupons last night. As the TV's die we will of course replace with HD but for now I guess we will just add the converters.

Judy, even the over the airwaves high def channels are beautiful.... and *free*..... no monthly charges for over the air. Koolaid is a good person with whom to speak about this. We did it at home, so we have both Dish and antenna.

I know what you mean on the delay Judy. My kitchen is between 2 rooms where one TV is HD cable and the other is regular cable. When the same channel is on in both rooms it gets on my nerves. I start fussing for them to turn one of them off. :lol

I'm cheap like Judy says. When I find out what to do with our perfectly good Tvs (and very good pictures), we'll get our HD. Neither of us are hooked on TV and keep thinking, "How many cruises or vacations could we take with what an HD cost?" At what our cruise (next week) is costing, we could do 3 cruises for the Hd that Karen wants.

Hucc I have heard that and Audra has a beautiful picture with her cable digital.

And we will of course have to go digital next year. But for us buying HD TV's makes little sense for us right now we just don't watch TV much. I'm a news junkie but other than that I really don't watch TV much. As these TV's die, we will replace with HD but not until then. And hopefully the cost will go down some.

Maureen especially with a sporting event......the crazy delay was driving Audra nuts because I was spoiling it for her by yelling about what happened. :lol :lol

Where did you get the coupons? I have digital cable, but do not have an HD set. When I bought this one a couple years ago, it was half the price of an HD set and I didn't want to spend the rest at the time. I never turn on the one in the bedroom.
