Ok, my TA upgraded us from an 8a to an 8g. Other than a bigger balcony what does thius mean? If I upgraded from an 8g to an 8i what woul;d be the difference? I seem to opnly be able to find general class info....I'd like to know what the difference is. Since it's our honeymoon mabye I will give my groom a wedding goift of paying for un upgrade.
Oh, guess I should ask....can I do that? If my cruise isn't all the way paid off but they fgave me my room # can I pay extra and get a nicer room?

Thanks again everyone!

I believe it usually refers to a deck higher up on the ship. We had a basic 8a on the miracle and that was the main deck. We were on the first level of rooms with balconies.

If you book an 8I vs an 8G on a GTY basis you have a better chance of getting upgraded to a cat 11 or 12. However, realize this is totally dependent on the mischevious and caprecious upgrade fairey as well as what you originally paid, being a past carnival cruiser, and how heavily booked your cruise becomes (dates make a difference). If you are going in a slower time such as before Thanksgiving or between Thanks giving and Chritmas it might be worth a shot if the upgrade to an 8I is very cheap.

I did this for Dec 01 (8I GTY) and got moved to a cat 11 (REALLY nice). However, booked a 4A GTY this March (spring break season) and ended up with about a smaller than avg. 4E in a (to me) really good location.
