My daughter Sara has wanted to be a nurse since she was 10 yrs old. She's now 20, and finishing up her 2nd year of college. She's wrapping up her GE, and working through her nursing prereqs. She knows that getting into nursing school is going to be difficult, because most of the nursing schools are on a lottery system for admission (too many applicants, not enough instructors! Teachers need to be paid more.). She became an EMT last summer, but no one wants a part time EMT, and she's still in school, so jobs have been difficult for her to find.

But she just drove off to her first job, and she's very excited. She applied to a company that provides in-home senior care, and didn't hear from them for 3 weeks. She was suddenly called to attend orientation! At orientation, she learned she was selected, along with about 10 other people, because of her experience. We can only assume they mean her EMT Certification, since she's never had a job before.

She has 4 hours today, and 4 hours tomorrow. Tomorrow is holiday pay, she'll be making more than me! LOL!

It was so thrilling to watch her drive away in her scrubs. My baby has a job!!!

Exciting news and good luck for her to get into nursing school. Woo hoo kids grow up and it is so good to see them soar.

Hope the nursing schol works out for her but at least she has her foot in door. My dau wanted nursing school but did not qualify(tood god in math not sure what that was abt.) She is now a Social Worker. At 50 has her retirement in and could retire.

I was hearing a report on the radio this morning about summer jobs for young people. They said that older and retired people are going back into the work force and taking the low paying jobs that the young people would usually take. And they are keeping them. Only 30% of young people are slated to find jobs this summer. A friend was just telling me that neither of her two daughters can find jobs this summer. Scary...

Congratulations Glo.. the first step of many to a successful career..enjoy....:)..Joannel

Congratulations to Sara! :thumb I wish her much success, and may this be a stepping stone to her nursing goal. Every step along the way can be crucial.
