I cruised on the Noordam on my first cruise many years ago. We used a local travel agent and was clueless about dress rules. My travel agent said to wear a dress I would wear to church to formal night on the ship. I forgot my dress shoes when packing so had to wear tennis shoes to dinner. I had several people look at me in disgust when I showed up in my dress. I decided then I did not know those people and their opinion meant nothing to me and I enjoyed my meal. Don't let anyone steal your joy.
