Darn him! :X He snuck up to the counter, and started nibbling on the chives. I grabbed him, made my displeasure known, and shoed him out of the kitchen. I went down to fold some laundry, and suddenly heard the sound of 18 lbs of cat hitting the kitchen floor. Ran back upstairs, and found the evidence!

Luckily he didn't munch on the basil. I might have to put his catnip under there. But today I am going to grab one of those foil folding car window screens, and put that around the AeroGarden when I'm not in the kitchen. That or hook up a mister surrounding it! Kitten hates water! :D

I know Miss Bella would do the same thing...she loves to eat my plants....especially my bamboo.

OUCH! I hope none of those herbs are toxic to kitties. :(

I'm aiming to assemble and set up my Aero Garden today.

I've had to give a few of my house plants to my DDs since they were on the toxic list for kitties and Bella wouldn't leave them alone.

What I find interesting - checking the similar list for dogs - is that garlic powder was recommended as an additive, earlier on, when Pucci was a royal pain about eating. I'll make sure he stays away from the tomato plants, IF they grow...

Glo, Chives are part of the onion family <http://www.blurtit.com/q403432.html> I'd keep and eye on her, just in case.

and here's another link, if you scroll down farther it does put it in the onion family. <http://www.bigtimberskennels.com/foods_you_should_not_feed_your_dog>

I feel for you Glo, sometimes these pets of ours :lol :lol

This goofy cat we have here really wants to be outside, but we can't let him out because we are too close to a busy road. So we let him out occasionally on a leash with a harness. He tolerates it, not happy though.

He loves eating grass, grazes like a goat. So DD buys wheat grass for him to eat in the house. He decided he doesn't like the wheat grass, so we have found that if we bring in grass from outside, band it with a rubber band, he can munch on that.

I talked to my vet tech neighbor and she said it's okay if he eats grass, it helps them with the hairballs.

So the things we do for these guys, he has us "well-trained".....=lolgang

Oh, yes, chives are not a good idea for the cat. He was just never interested in it before. Oh well... I have put up one of those foil windshield sun screens around the Aero Garden, so if any chives do grow back, he can't eat them. Luckily, there were only 5 chive stalks up, and he didn't inject probably more then one 3" stalk, so I'm not too worried. I'll watch him though.

Good idea with the bunching of the outdoor grass. Just be careful with the rubber band. Cats like to swallow them, and they can mess up their intestines badly! http://www.pandecats.com/poison_plants.htm

Hi,
But as far as I know the Aerogarden system is safe for cats. The whole system operates in a closed container. However, I think it is advisable to stay away from Aerogarden cats. A cat may try to play with the system and fall from a height. It can damage the component.
I found a lot of information about Aerogarden and cats in this article. You can find out more here.
