I will be in Cozumel in April and want to know about renting a jeep to drive around the island. I'm sure someone has done this before. Any suggestions? I would like to know if it is worth the time. I understand the other side of the island is really pristine although diving off the beach is pretty tough. Can anyone tell me about the island outside of the main town? I would like to venture out a little this trip. Sailing on the Conquest April 10. Thanks for any information. Bon Temps Roule If anyone is interested once I get there, let me know we should have room for two more.

My son and nephews rented converted golf carts at the port. $50 and two can ride in them. They went pretty fast and went to town (about 10 min away from the port) and partially around the island. They loved them. Outside the port itself are more rentals for motorized vehicles and scooters.

Whatever you do, don't rent the mopeds across the street from the pier. My friends and I were cruising the Triumph in october, so we decided not to do a shore excursion and rent mopeds and cruise the island. So anyways we rented these mopeds and then returned them at the end of the day. When we returned them, they made us pay for these so called "damages" on the moped. None of us fell off of them or crashed them, so there was no damage from us. They charged us $300 in "damages." We didnt know what to do so we paid them because we didnt know what to do, were in a different country!!! Also when we rented them, they tried to say that they needed our sail and sign cards for identification. If this was in the United States, I would of called the BBB. My advise is to just book shore excursions and play it safe.

We rented a jeep for two days and a scooter for one day this past December. The other side of the island is awesome. I would suggest Coconuts for lunch if you do go to the other side.

Thanks Jacklyn- How long does it take to drive around the other side and fool around? Is there any useful information on the web about the "other side"?
